Please help I am forced to go into debt

The HM Revenue & Customs is waiting for me to repay them £2000 of child tax credit between 2020 and 2021 as my husband refused to update his earnings just because he is punishing me for the tax credit going into my account. I didn't work that time due to depression and he didn't earn the amount they said because he was ans still a student. All the HMRC is asking is for him to get in touch and give some proofs. We have been given 3 months till May, then they will pass the case to the bailiffs.
Please what should I do?

Contact your CAB and womens aid for advice.

Are you still together?

Honestly this sounds like financial abuse. I second contacting women's aid.

Thanks for your reply, i contacted both the CAB and Women's aid, they all said to contact the HMRC to find out how much I can pay monthly, we still leaving together. I don't mind paying it back if I didn't deserve it, i know it's a financial abuse, but it's more hard if there's nowhere you can complain about so that they can ask/make him to send his pay60. The HMRC said only he can call and talk about his earning I can't do that on his behalf, despite explaining to them everything that is going between us.
