What happens if a child doesn't turn up at school?

Just as the title, if a child doesn't turn up at secondary school, does the school contact the parents?

I'm just feeling a bit panicky as DD has used up all her data, so Life360 isn't working, but strangely her phone is switched off (it wasn't when she left to walk the 5 minutes to the bus stop, it's always on, just on silent at school).

I wouldn't have known, except she has a new bus driver, who hasn't stuck to the route, and was incredibly early today, so I wanted to check she'd got on it OK, but her phone was off.

So basically, if she didn't arrive at school, would the school contact me?

We get a text message.

My ds was off one day and i forgot to call. They text me at 2.10pm to say he wasnt there.
Totally my fault for not calling. But if god forbid any thing had happened to him he could have been injured or missing for hours before i knew

Our school rings and texts. But it might not be until mid-morning.
And if you rang the school it would probably be similar before you actually spoke to a person.

For the future OP- I'd suggest you need to put checks in place to make sure that DD always has her phone topped up (at that age, this was a requirement for our DC to have a phone). And I'd suggest asking for the phone number of a friend(s) so you have an alternative contact.
