Overnight stay somewhere tranquil within 2.5 hours of Surrey

My mum has kindly offered to have DC for one night so we can escape! We're exhausted and haven't been able to do this for years.

Any suggestions? We'd love something with views or by the sea if possible. Definitely somewhere we can go for walks.

As long as it's clean and functional, it doesn't need to be fussy so not necessarily 5 star or even a hotel. Happy for a rural lodge but I am too old to squidge myself into a overpriced shack shepherd's hut. No shared bathrooms or al fresco loos either! Pool or hot tub a bonus. Self catering fine.

Budget £300.

Where would you stay?

Somerset- around quantock hills is lovely and plenty to do. Between hills and sea. It used to take 1.5 hours from berks so depends how far round m25 form m4 you are….

Thank you! I don't know any of those areas. Any specific accommodation suggestions?

Have a look at these: bedandbreakfastnationwide.com/ you can filter by area

The Cotwolds are nice - around Cirencester.

Also a bit nearer but there are lots of pretty places in Kent or East Sussex like Rye.

Stockbridge or Alresford in Hampshire are nice, the Swan hotel in Alresford would make a nice base - Alresford is nice for walks and you are not far from Winchester. Stockbridge is similar with Salisbury.

If you want the coast you could also stay at Dippers B&B which in a village near Bridport. Although I don't know if they do one night stays - coastal places usually don't.

(has a nice pub called the Crown up the road (5 mins walk so you can drink) and is very peaceful)

No views, but Spot in the Woods in the new Forest is very quiet and has some great walks nearby.
Gravetye Manor has good views and stunning gardens. There are PDF documents available of local walks such as this www.gravetyemanor.co.uk/media/1290/thecatwalk.pdf

£550 for one night at Gravetye Manor Shock. I thought £300 was a healthy budget. I could afford it but I just can't see what can possibly make it worth it and I think of everything else which the money could be spent on!

Working my way up the suggestions, thank you.
