Energy companies

Just moved house, I'm with the energy provider that was already in place - for now.

Initially they seemed ok or no worse than most at the time but I am on my 2nd call of the day trying to get information after submitting a meter reading last week on a number of matters not just that issue.

I get it's busy at the moment I expected to be on hold a while, what's annoying is when I did get through the customer service is pretty poor.

Anyone have any inkling as to when things are likely to be calmer for me to be able to shop around not only for better prices but also better customer service and do any of you have recommendations on the customer service side of things?

I've looked at comparison sites scorings on this and unfortunately also the companies with the better customer service seem to be those newer companies more likely to go bust! Which I am not really fancying trying either.

Drives me nuts (as I'm sure it does many customers!) that the govt watchdogs for such things are so bloody useless and don't make these companies provide clear info and decent customer service!

So recommendations - and who to avoid like the plague please?

I couldn’t get a different company to take me as a customer when I moved

Hate the uncertainty and hate the lack of decent customer service in the industry generally.

At my last place I was stuck with a Prepay company and meter and the company was murder to deal with and virtually impossible to get hold of

I've not heard good things about octopus both in terms of current customers and reviews online plus they're rumoured to be the next one which will go under?

I get extremely stressed at not knowing what's happening with my money, bills etc

I know everyone does but I also have ocd so don't cope well with lack of certainty on such things and with everything that's going on I'm much more stressed than usual

I’ve never been supplied by Octopus but generally hear good things about them and don’t think they will go under.

Look at the suppliers Ofgem appoints to take over the energy companies that goes bust. Octopus is one of them so that means Ofgem believes it will ride out the energy crisis or else it wouldn’t be given them customers as a supplier of last resort. Ofgem got it wrong years ago with iSupply and Toto and they won’t make that mistake again as it causes too much disruption for customers.

I was with Avro and when they went bust I was moved to Octopus and am really pleased so far. I submit a meter reading at least once a month and can amend my direct debit amount as I see fit. No issues so far as far as I am concerned. Hope they do not go under. Find their website very easy to use and clear to understand. All my bills/statements are based on my readings so accurate.

Octopus has an 89% excellent rating on Trustpilot, with only 3% rating it as bad. That compares with British Gas at 43% excellent and 32% bad; e.on at 47% excellent, 30% bad; and Ovo at 71% excellent, 8% bad.

@TheFoldOx

Hopefully you'll get the email you need soon, *@VanGoghsDog*. When did you contact them?
About four weeks ago, but I've fixed since then. I probably wouldn't change now, I had such a to-do with Eon I actually need to let things settle down a bit now!
