Had my card used overnight fraudulently

So I woke up this morning to see if had numerous transactions gone out my bank to dominoes pizza and Mac Donald's.

I've cancelled my card and the bank has refunded me so I have no problems there.
But what does puzzle me is why they've used it there. Are scammers just really hungry?! Or am I missing something?
Surely the banks will see where these fast food joints are delivering too under those transactions.
Is there more to it? Just curious to know

I don’t think they bother for small amounts anymore sadly , probably costs more to investigate than admin fees

They don't care...
I had my bank card used multiple times even post it being cancelled and monzo would ping me straight away which i would forward to thr police.
They literally had the time and place the thieves were using my card.. yet zero action for 2 weeks later when the cctv was already deleted. They were using my card for tiny amounts in newsagents mostly.

They use small amounts to test the card. Plus they could have been collections not deliveries.

After the card works they then go on to try and buy something expensive that can be easily sold, eg laptops.

There was something about this in the Guardian just recently: www.theguardian.com/money/2022/feb/26/credit-card-fraud-scammers-guess-attacks

@BarbaraofSeville Ah that makes more sense! Seemed a lot of bother & risk to go to just to get some pizzas 😆🙈

I had this just the other week. Some random purchase for about $5 in michigan (I'm in the uk), a couple of card checks for UberEats but nothing taken, and another USD transaction for an Uber ride. I notified my bank straight away and all seemed well.

Then, a few days later, I got a call late at night from someone purporting to be from Monzo saying that they had notices further unusual activity on my card in a city miles away from my home town. They knew my bank, where I lived and my home tel number. They wanted me to confirm my bank details to canx the 'transactions'.

I was suspicious pretty much immediately because banks don't so this, and I also know exactly what goes in and out of my account. Then a baby started crying in the background and I said "I'm sure you're not from Monzo" and he put the phone down!

I was notified a few months ago that my personal details had been accessed when security systems were hacked (can't remember which provider/retailer). Clearly, my details are out there Angry
