Botox - yes or no? And at what age?

I’ve been wondering about getting a bit of Botox. I’m 41 but it’s been a rough few years with some scary health issues for DD2 and various operations for me. I found an old photo of me from 10 years ago this week and could have cried - you’d never guess I was the same person. I’m also feeling that life is so absolutely rammed to the rafters right now that every minute of the day is triple booked and there is very little time left to look after myself. I am exercising but realistically doing less than the bare minimum in terms of skincare and make up.

DH isn’t very keen on the idea and thinks I don’t need it and that if I want to, I should try diet and more sleep first- however he is working long hours and I can’t magically create more hours in the day in which to sleep. We are lucky that we can afford it without cutting back on anything else.

Would you do it if finances allowed? And is 41 too young to start- am I being ridiculous? I work from home and our school run is full of very glamourous women - I suspect that my view of what is normal among the people I see is skewed. Does everybody else view it as an absolutely terrible idea, entertained only by lunatics with some kind of wish to be poisoned..? Or would you be happy to do it if you thought it would make you look less utterly exhausted?

Oh OP thank you for asking this, I have been considering getting it done and this thread has been so helpful. Can anyone on here who's had it done with a reputable doctor in the Manchester area recommend their practitioner? Could do with someone who can help me with rosacea and thread veins at the same time...

I would say if you are thinking about it a lot, just get it. Not because you "need" it, just because it's temporary, extremely rare to have bad side effects and relatively affordable. So it's not worth agonising over. Just try it, you might love it and book in a few times a year, you might think meh not worth it and never get it again. You aren't stuck with it.

@twilightcustard I can almost guarantee that the majority of people you see that have had Botox, you don't notice. I have 3 friends I've known since their 20s that have it regularly now in their 30s, I only know because they told me. I suspect I have several more friends who haven't told me, but I've no idea.

Are we really saying that Catherine Middleton looks 'jarring' here, because personally I think she looks fresh and beautiful.

I have it on my crows feet as its the one area of my face that really ages me badly. Still have all my expressions, and no one has ever suspected, even my mother and nothing usually gets past her! Only DH knows. I go to an aesthetics clinic with medical staff, and got a non invasive facial with them beforehand so I could check them out. I tried all sorts of creams beforehand, nothing really worked.

Had my first Botox on Thursday. I went from thinking about it on Monday to the procedure on Thursday. Just my bunny lines and forehead. I'm looking forward to it kicking in 😁

@Stringervest I went to skinviva in Manchester. All done by qualified Doctors. A friend recommended them. Not cheap though

I have a scar on one side of my eyebrow. Right where my 11's are. If I have Botox it's not so noticible, if I don't it's now becoming more prominent as I age.

I get Botox more for that. However I'd of prob still gone down the same route anyway.

I won't get filler though.

I use smileworks in Liverpool and always see mj.
