Absolutely everything I eat gives me a bloated tummy

What can I do about it? I've thought I can half my portions (which are normal not excessive) and see if that helps. I don't eat bread or biscuits crap. Just normal home-cooked food with plenty of veg.

Might be worth a trip to the doctor to see what they think is causing it.

Toponeniceone · 06/04/2022 17:35

Yes, won't hurt to get checked out, but make sure you are chewing your food properly and not inhaling it. Like me.

Ocelotka · 06/04/2022 17:38

Could it be what you drink rather than what you eat? Tea makes me bloated for example!

Sympathies OP. Having gone from being able to eat normally, basically anything in my twenties (was always slim and fit) to gradually having to eliminate so much because of the bloating and pain..started with bread, then gradually gluten entirely (wheat/barley/oats) then onions, garlic, pickled anything, roast parsnips (my favourite 😭), stone fruits, grapes, dried fruit, nuts then most recently A1 cows milk protein! (Normal cows milk) but I'm fine with goats milk/A2 cows milk protein but obviously not oat or almond milk!

It's such a pain but I have got used to being ever more careful now 🙄

Hi OP

I think unexplained bloating always deserves a scrutiny from the doctors. It is most likely to be caused by any number of issues around gut flora, lifestyle, hormones or just anything else - but because bloating particularly when unexplained can also signal more difficult issues - please go get yourself checked out.

Justkeeppedaling · 06/04/2022 18:01

Is it actual "bloating" or is just that you have food in your stomach?

Your stomach is bound to be bigger for a while after you've eaten.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 06/04/2022 18:04

It's normal for your stomach to expand slightly after meals.

Theforest · 06/04/2022 18:04

Definitely get it checked out

Justwingingit2005 · 06/04/2022 18:08

If your tummy is always bloated it needs checking out, my mum had ovarian cancer, and while I don't think you have it without any other signs, she had a persistently bloating tummy that didn't go down over night.
I have IBS and sometimes I get bloated after meals where i look pregnant but it always go down.

florianfortescue · 06/04/2022 18:40

Veg always makes me bloated. I think it produces gas as it's digesting. I was advised to try a low FODMAP diet but never got round to it... I've just accepted my bloatedness Grin

Bagelsandbrie · 06/04/2022 18:45

Could actually be the veg.

Peri menopause / menopause also causes bloating and excess tummy weight in a lot of people. Lack of oestrogen changes the bowel and the way weight is distributed. HRT may help.

And probiotics. Biokaut tablets are very good.

I am currently on day 5 of covid and this seems to be a more common symptom, for myself included.

If it's a longer standing issue then you must see your GP.
