Ideas please to enjoy my 40th tomorrow as covid has cancelled it

My children brought home covid on Friday so we're going to be stuck in the house for the foreseeable meaning my birthday plans have been cancelled for tomorrow and the rest of the holidays, including a weekend away with a large group of friends and their kids, plus some meals with friends and family.

I have been moping since they tested positive and have been a right grumpy cow. We've had covid several times since it appeared! We've had the crappest time over the past few years and things had started to look up this year so I decided to make lots of last minute plans to celebrate with friends and family. We don't do much generally and haven't been away since before covid so having it all taken away has hit me hard.

However, I don't want to seem like an ungrateful cow when people wish me happy birthday tomorrow or send me gifts so I'm now trying to suck it up and make the best of it.

I was clearing up the dishes earlier and put some 90s party tunes on which has picked me up. Plus my husband hasn't been seen since getting back from the shops over 2 hours ago telling me I've not to go in the bedroom, he's obviously doing something for my birthday so I don't want to be sullen and ungrateful tomorrow.

Any ideas on fun things to do tomorrow in the house with 2 primary aged kids and a husband for my birthday?? Otherwise it'll just be another day, I may as well try and make the most of it!

@delightly - Oh I so did not want to read and run! You are a TROOPER! Well done for taking all this shite at a very reasonable pace.

What is your favourite pudding? Please tell me it is brownies and ice cream. The children could help you make brownies if they are up to it.

Hey! have you never introduced yourself and your children to the mad parents who dance away to 80's & 90's music. They might like that!!

I wish you a very happy birthday Flowers

delightly · 06/04/2022 09:38

@RedDiamond Thank you 😊

The kids have seen us (well, me) often dancing to 80s & 90s music and have the love of a lot of it as a result.

Brownies or cake is a good shout, thanks!

Happy Birthday 🥳 my kids both had chickenpox for my 40th (10 years ago!)

You should a) spend some time today planning treats, trips and events. Have something to look forward to. You have deferred not cancelled your birthday celebrations.

b) get films lined up (old favourites), cake, food delivered and then pretend you are lady bountiful, recline on the sofa and encourage everyone to spoil you like mad. Board games if that floats your boat (I can't stand them).

If you are in the UK, you don't have to isolate! Just go out & enjoy yourselves.

delightly · 06/04/2022 10:12

@Notonthestairs I had to cancel my plans for my 35th birthday as both kids had chickenpox then! They pick their moments don't they?? I love the lady bountiful idea Grin

@Hbh17 In the UK and Scotland. We've had the same isolation rules for months unfortunately.

Nonsense. What you mean is England. In Scotland we still have to isolate. Stop confusing England with the UK. I'm not even Scottish and this drives me nuts. And even in England they don't recommend you carry on as normal if you can help it.

OP, I'm sorry for your situation, it completely sucks. We've had the same on more than one occasion. Agree with others about making future plans, cook some amazing food at home, do some
kitchen karaoke! Good luck.

You’re joking, yes?

@delightly happy birthday my birthday buddy! Quite similar here, we've all got a horrid cold and the weather is awful. It's not a significant birthday but still feels a little flat especially after spending the last 2 in lockdown! we've ordered in breakfast, I'm going to have a bath in peace (the kids have promised to leave me alone!) And DH has arranged for pizza and pasta takeout from our favourite Italian restaurant this evening.
Hope you have a lovely day

AdaColeman · 06/04/2022 10:34

Happy Birthday!
Get all your board games and cards out, and have a family games marathon this afternoon. If you’ve got popcorn or ice cream that would be a plus.
Family film night for early evening?
Have a good day! 🥳 🥳 🥳

Thegoodandbadlife · 06/04/2022 10:45

Is there somewhere that will deliver food? I’d do a mini afternoon tea for lunch with cakes etc with whatever you can get delivered and then in the evening a nice takeaway and dancing!

florianfortescue · 06/04/2022 11:11

Have you got a games console? I highly recommend Jackbox games which you can play as a family. Basically you play it on the TV (via console) and then everyone uses their smartphone as their device to play the game.

There are all sorts of games within Jackbox, my favourite is Drawful which is a bit like Pictionary.

Honestly it blows other family games out of the water, I bet you'd have a blast playing it.

Disclaimer, I don't work for Jackbox, I'm just a fan!

And happy birthday!!

delightly · 06/04/2022 11:29

Thank you to everyone for your lovely suggestions!

I have been spoiled already and have some doorstep visits to come.

@ohidoliketobe Happy birthday to you too!

My husband is making me a lovely dinner tonight and is currently making me brunch.

We do love playing games as a family either on the games console or board games etc so I think this will be order of the day!
