How long is a piece of string? I've known people have their operation within weeks and others who waited so long they had to go through the pre-op tests again.
My aunt had an urgent spinal operation recently and it was 9 weeks after her first pre-op assessment. (she was at risk of permanent paralysis without surgery)

I’m having a private op next week (fingers crossed for no Covid in the meantime,). My pre-op was 9 March. If the dates hadn’t been convenient the op could easily have been end of April.

I'm waiting on my thyroid to be removed, and my pre op is later this month, I asked the Consultants Secretary how long it would be and she said they have 18 weeks to do the operation. If you are still waiting after that date they just book you back in for another pre op. Might be different at your Hospital, give the department a ring and ask.

In the past it has always been within 2 weeks from the pre op date.

I’ve asked this vey question a couple of hours ago at my pre op assessment. I was told the assessment was valid for twelve months but it wouldn’t be that long. They said it could be weeks so no wiser really.

Last time I had a pre-op I had to have it twice as it expired. The guideline then was for it to be within a month of the op.

I am also awaiting thyroid surgery. Have got my pre op assessment next week and then a surgery slot booked for 2 weeks after. But I only got this after talking to the ENT booking team direct. I was due to have surgery in 2020 so it has been a rather long wait.

I was told that my pre op was valid for 6 months. Had to have another as the 6 months expired

Thanks everyone, I was hoping it meant surgery was going to be soon, but maybe not!

Got a letter giving me date and time for cataract removal to attend as an outpatient but it doesn't say if its just a pre op appointment or actual date and time of surgery. As there are no instructions in with letter I can only presume its just for a check up and date of surgery to follow, not getting any relies to my emails and no one answers the phone! Its a private clinic but seeing NHS patients. Cant seem to find an answer on searching this question anywhere. 🤔
