Travel money

Where is the best place these days to get a small amount of travel money?

We normally just use a low interest credit card, but we would like to have some cash on hand for children's spending money, tips etc.

We only need about £50 of Turkish lira and so I don't want to end up paying a whacking commission.

If it's a small amount, the difference in commission if it's a percentage built into the exchange rate with no minimum will be pennies, so you could just get it from the Post Office, supermarket bureau de change or wherever. Look at it as 'which place gives me the most TL for my £50' without worrying too much about exchange rates or commission fees.

Or withdraw from a cash machine in Turkey, if you have the right credit card, eg Halifax Clarity. Or ask your friends/family if anyone has any leftover from previous trips that they can sell to you at the official exchange rate. This will be mutually beneficial to both of you, as no commission/fees payable.

We've never beent to Turkey, but for euro zone trips, we just keep whatever cash we had leftover for our next trips.

I always just go to M&S as I'm in there doing the shopping anyway

Thanks. I do have one of those credit cards, but I'd rather not be faffing around at the airport with two small children, trying to find a cash machine.

Good tips thanks all.
