Need help from people who have renewed a passport recently!

I just applied to renew my passport today. Took the old one to the post office, missed the last collection today but posted it anyway and it'll be on its way on Monday.

I'm flying out on 23rd May. Felt all happy about getting it sent off nice and early, until I googled turnaround times (why oh why didn't I do this beforehand?!) and saw that it could take up to TEN weeks!! I only have seven. The passport website says applications are currently taking five weeks.

My trip will only be refundable up until 23rd April (3 weeks time). My decision on whether to cancel/postpone will depend on how far through the application process my passport gets by 23rd April.

So, please, can anyone tell me what the stages were when you tracked your passport renewal's progress? And which stages seemed to take longest?

Many thanks in advance Smile

5 weeks here, but didn’t get notification that we needed a different photo for one of them until 4 weeks in. Seemed to take ages for them to get our old passports/update to say they had received them.

Thanks everyone, I really wish I had sorted this sooner 🙈 Looks like I might be okay, but it’s a hell of a gamble when I could lose £700s worth of holiday! Hopefully I’m one of the lucky ones and there will be updates that it’s on its way through the system within the next 3 weeks. I used a digital photo from a photobooth, and there’s no name change, so I’m hoping that means it’s straightforward. I sent it to the London office.

I renewed a child one recently and received it two weeks and two days after posting the old one back.

Blah1881 · 05/04/2022 20:51

I sent my child’s renewal on the 28th Feb Avis check and send snd then panicked when I got a text on the 8th March confirming receipt and a due to be completed date of mid May. We fly on Sunday. So I booked an urgent appointment at Newport taking with me a letter saying I wanted to withdraw my application and start a fast track. They said I couldn’t as my child’s original document was in Durham. So I booked a fast track in Durham and did a 13 hour round trip by train . They were able to bring my child’s original document down to the desk and I was able to complete my application. This was last Thursday. Her new passport arrived in the post today.

Blah1881 · 05/04/2022 20:52

Typo there should be ‘using check and send’

Scbchl · 05/04/2022 20:53

I'm sorry Iv been waiting for my daughters since 2nd Feb, it still just says processing. I really hope its fast for you though!

We renewed for both DH and DS, received the new ones today, 2.5 weeks after applying and posting the bold ones off.

Ijsbear · 05/04/2022 21:22

Renewed from overseas and it was pretty quick. Only held up by the foto apparently not being good enough, though it looked just fine to me. I'd been afraid it would take ages but it really didn't.

Oliack1417 · 05/04/2022 21:32

We just renewed mine and my sons. Took 2.5 weeks from start to new passports arriving.

chubbachub · 05/04/2022 21:44

Dh just did his last week. Did the renewal form and paid all online then posted his new photo and old passport. Had a text a few days later saying the application was processed then approved and new one was here 2 days later. Hes flying in June so wanted to give it plenty of time but it was fine.

CutesyUserName · 05/04/2022 22:15

Mine arrived 2 weeks after they'd received my old passport. I renewed online.

TheVanguardSix · 05/04/2022 22:42

4 weeks here and still waiting.

WellTidy · 05/04/2022 22:45

I renewed DS’ passport a month ago. Received it back within three weeks.

I renewed mine last week by going to the passport for an in person appointment. Received my new passport within the week.

bluebellsis · 05/04/2022 22:45

I've just renewed my kids passports and it took 4 week

leviosa123 · 05/04/2022 22:53

DC's have just taken roughly 4 weeks, start to finish

Costacoffeeplease · 05/04/2022 23:23

Organised my mums over the weekend. Website quoting 11 weeks!

Verite1 · 06/04/2022 00:18

Just renewed an adults and two kids. 3 weeks for the kids, 4 weeks for the adult. Took ages to update to say old passports were received, then went pretty quickly

bellsbuss · 06/04/2022 00:40

I renewed 1 adult and 2 children's passports 3 weeks ago, one is being printed, 1 says it's been approved and the adult one only said yesterday that the documents had been received. All old passports were sent on the same day but to 3 different passport offices.

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/04/2022 09:23

Did you renew online @passportpanics?

Bananasunrise · 06/04/2022 09:29

About 4/5 weeks here but I took my time sending off the old one.

alloalloallo · 06/04/2022 09:43

We’ve just renewed DH’s and both our daughter’s passports.

Applied online on the 20th March and we’ve had emails today with tracking information so I’m assuming they’re on their way out to us.

A friend applied for a replacement after she’d lost hers and that took nearly 12 weeks all in.

Maybe straight forward renewals are a bit quicker

Houseplantmad · 06/04/2022 09:48

Phone them. I was getting worried about DS's first adult passport after a month and when I phoned they asked me to send proof of travel. I sent this and it took a further 2.5 weeks so nearly 8 weeks in total. It arrived late last week and we travel tomorrow. A bit too close for comfort.

MmeCamenbert · 06/04/2022 11:57

I recently renewed 3, 1 adult and 2 children via the government website (I'm in France so have to do a slightly different application) I received all 3 back after 5 1/2 weeks, I think (hope) you will be fine, overseas applications usually always take longer!

Topseyt · 07/04/2022 18:45

Well, as I said earlier in the thread, we sent DD3's application for renewal off last Friday (to Peterborough).

I just looked it up on the tracking service - it has already been approved and is about to be printed.😎
