Living in the Chepstow area— what’s it like?

Looking at property within 4 miles of Chepstow. Any areas to avoid?
Single person, thinking of a new build which might be cheaper to heat.
Thanks for any info or opinions.

From a commuting perspective, Chepstow is a bottleneck if you want to get to the M48/M4. The air quality is quite poor during rush hour, so pick your property carefully - personally I wouldn't choose to live in Chepstow itself for that reason, it's full of car/ vehicle fumes. It's because of its geography, sitting between two rivers (River Wye and the Severn estuary) there is nowhere to build a bye pass so everyone has to travel through Chepstow to get to the motorway > Newport/Cardiff or Bristol.

Amenity has improved in recent years but it still isn't that great - only 2 medium supermarkets (Tesco and M&S) and only basic shops in the High Street.

Thanks. You’ve mentioned a couple of things I didn’t know about.
I’m just looking at properties online atm. Caldicot and Caerwent have properties I like the look of, so if anyone has knowledge of these areas.

Bumping this for you, and also to mention, I read in this week's local paper that there has been approval to invest in a study to look at possibilities for a Chepstow bye pass.
