Is there much of a saving.
Both same cycle time of 1 hr 20.

I can't answer that question, but I did a controlled experiment with a long and short wash, using a plug in monitor.

30 degrees, 60 minutes wash used 1 kwh exactly
30 degrees, 3 hour wash used 0.7 kwh

Geeky I know, but I'm on a mission.

Marginally.

But that's not a reason to not do it, in combination with other things. Eg when using oven, cook a cake at the same time etc. Or turning down the heating by 1°+

All marginal l, but added up could make a significant difference across a year

No idea to price but be aware that some items need a hotter wash anyway. I do almost all washing at 30 but towels and bed sheets are at 40 due to possible bacteria. Everything is clean and doesnt smell. So yeah, its fine to do lower temperature.

Oh yes i do bedding and towels on a 40 or 60
Underwear 60

30 would be more like school uniform that isnt ' dirty or sweaty' my clothes as i never get sweaty really.

I never do 60 wash (or above) unless we had norovirus. There really isn't any need for it if you use bio washpowder, thats what it is designed to do. Everything on 30 including underwear and dirty sweaty gardening clothes, husbands work clothes (works in a bus garage with oil and dieseletc). I mean everything. Only items that could have bacteria on them gets the 40 (so towels and bedsheets). I am assuming you want to use lower temperatures due to the energy increases. Just do it all on 30. Most people do.
