Stay over or come home? Would you pay for a hotel ?

I'm going to a gig in a few weeks.
The last train home is at 11pm
Normally the gig finishes around 10.40 ish
So we would have to rush for the last train
The hotels in the city centre are over £200 as it's a Saturday night but there's a airport hotel £67.50 which is a 10 min taxi ride (less than £10 )

What would you do?
Try and catch the train? Or book the airport hotel ?

How far from home is the gig?

Trulyweird1 · 02/04/2022 08:13

Hotel. Gigs run late, and I hate missing the encores. If it’s not something you get to do regularly , book the hotel.

wetlastfoor · 02/04/2022 08:14

45 min train ride back home but the taxi would be over £70

I think you would have to leave before the end to make the train, as you can't rush through a crowd. If you don't want to do that then book a hotel.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 02/04/2022 08:17

If the airport hotel is £67.50 + taxi ride i would get a taxi home for £70, but I hate rushing, hate leaving before the end of something & rarely go to gigs/shows so it would be a special occasion for me.
I guess it depends what you can afford🤷‍♀️

Taxi surely unless you want to make a weekend of it

Gladioli23 · 02/04/2022 08:19

If you have to pay the train fare either way then surely you don't book a hotel, aim to get the train and if you miss it pay the taxi fare home which is the same price as the cheaper hotel?

girlmom21 · 02/04/2022 08:20

I'd get the taxi home.

Otherwise the next day you're going to pay for breakfast, taxi to the train station and train home.

BendingSpoons · 02/04/2022 08:26

Missed your update. I'd price a taxi home. Or is there a later train to somewhere vaguely near that you could get if you miss yours and taxi the last bit?

rookiemere · 02/04/2022 08:30

Depends how important the gig is for you.
If you're fine with missing the encores then train home, if you want to savour every moment then taxi home seems cheapest option.

Iwonder08 · 02/04/2022 08:33

Neither. Pay £70 for a taxi home

kitcat15 · 02/04/2022 08:35

TAXI home if you miss the train...no brainer

Christmas1988 · 02/04/2022 08:41

Stay over, make a night of it!

TenoringBehind · 02/04/2022 08:43

Taxi home

wetlastfoor · 02/04/2022 08:44

Just booked the hotel
We are gonna make a night of it then head into the city on the Sunday for lunch and shopping

How easy would it be to get a taxi? Where I live you'd be standing in a queue for two hours to get one (city centre with a shortage of taxi's).
