I'm just wondering if it's better to get a newer Android, an older Apple or a refurbished Apple. Thanks.

If You are used to android, i would stick with android.

nearlyspringyay · 01/04/2022 16:41

Apple all the way. What are the rest of your family on though?

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2022 16:44

Stick with Android if that's what you're familiar with.

ouch321 · 01/04/2022 17:02

Apple you tend to pay a premium for the whole 'fanboy/girl' thing.

You can get, therefore, the same spec on Android for less.

Indoorcatmum · 01/04/2022 18:37

Nooooooooo don't do it! My DH just made the swap and I am gleeful about his regret

QuebecBagnet · 01/04/2022 18:40

I regret making the jump.

fortheloveofcheesecake · 01/04/2022 18:42

I switched to Apple and lasted 6 months before switching back to android. Couldn't do with charging my phone twice a day...the battery was rubbish!

Okeydoky · 01/04/2022 18:55

I have Android for my personal phone and my work phone is an iPhone. I really don't get the fuss about iPhones. The battery is worse and they are less customisable.

spaceman1 · 01/04/2022 19:02

I have always had an iPhone and did try android but found it too complicated so went back. I think it's what your used to that counts.

LardyDee · 01/04/2022 19:04

You don't say why you want to switch.

As far as I can see there's not really any difference in functionality. It will just be a whole lot of hassle converting and adjusting for no gain. (And Apple stuff tends to be more expensive than Android equivalent.)

EmpressCixi · 01/04/2022 19:08

I prefer Apple myself. Much better privacy security and easier to use imho.

ImAvingOops · 01/04/2022 19:16

I swapped to apple after having android for years. I like airdrop and Apple Pay but tbh my huawei was comparable (for my needs) and a fraction of the price. I don't really 'get' the apple love. I swapped because everyone else in my family had apple and face time is handy.

ImAvingOops · 01/04/2022 19:22

Also if you use Amazon to buy kindle books, apple doesn't support this

FinallyHere · 01/04/2022 19:31

@ImAvingOops

Also if you use Amazon to buy kindle books, apple doesn't support this
That's a bit disingenuous , @ImAvingOops

I buy kindle/audible books from the Amazon site www.Amazon.co.uk on my iPhone with no trouble, rather than using their App. I don't see any benefit from using the Amazon App for anything, really

ImAvingOops · 01/04/2022 19:37

I use the Amazon app all the time. For me, going through the website and having to log in is just another layer of faff, making something more hassle than it needs to be

BrightGoldenHazeintheMeadow · 01/04/2022 19:51

Thanks so much everyone. The rest of the family is Android. My children want to switch to Apple because "everyone" at school has Apple. They don't of course but it feels that way to them. The reason I'm considering it is because there's a perception they are better so I thought I might treat myself :) I'm just remembering now that when my sister switched to Apple my husband transferred everything from her Android phone. He works in IT and found this a really tricky, time consuming process. I currently have a Motorola. I think you've all persuaded me to stick with Android. Any recommendations?

BrightGoldenHazeintheMeadow · 01/04/2022 19:53

When I say you have "all persuaded me" I realise some have said they prefer Apple but it does seem as though the transition will not be painless and it probably isn't worth it. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

I was an android user for ever until recently changing to an iPhone. I brought an older model brand new for the savings after researching and brought an iPhone 11. I have to say after 4 months of having it. The battery life is much better. I really enjoy Apple Pay and the security of the phone and setting up/remembering saved passwords. Face recognition is awesome. Feel like the phone is much more hardwearing too.

I genuinely haven't missed my Android at all.

Duchess379 · 01/04/2022 19:58

I've dabbled with iPhones twice & quickly went back to android. Just get a decent android phone 👍🏼

HappyGoDucky · 01/04/2022 21:10

Apple battery is shocking....

StatisticalDream · 01/04/2022 21:14

I've always used an android but once in a while need to do something for my mum on her phone. She's got an apple phone. Doing anything, even the simplest thing, annoys the hell out of me on her apple phone. I find them terribly unintuitive. Maybe you aren't as rigid as I am but I think if you are used to android it might be tough to switch (at least initially).

ImAvingOops · 02/04/2022 00:59

If you do stick with android, you can still have face recognition and use Google pay, I think. I used to unlock my old huawei with face recognition but didn't use my phone for paying so don't know how good google pay is.
I think apple is probably much better if all your other devices are apple, so your phone syncs with your iPad and Mac.

TooManyPJs · 02/04/2022 01:15

Do it. I have always had iPhones and find them very easy to use. I use an android for work and have to use other people's android phones. They are rubbish and annoying in comparison. I'm really not sure why people rate them.

HellToTheNope · 02/04/2022 01:25

I switched from Apple to Android and I'll never go back. iPhones are massively overrated.

DinosaursEatMan · 02/04/2022 01:26

I swapped from Android to Apple a couple of years ago and would never go back. I find it so intuitive, my work mobile is an Android and I rarely go a day without wanting to jump on it in frustration.
