High NT fluid on 12 week scan

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and in my ultrasound it was found that my baby has high NT fluid of 7.0 and on the report it has a single umbilical artery.
Bubs heart rate was normal at 161 bpm and was wriggling and perfect in size- this is my hope I am holding on to.
Without any empathy the radiologist doctor told me the survival of a healthy pregnancy was not very good at all.
My own GP told me that we will just have to monitor my pregnancy closely. I am waiting on my 12 week blood results and NIPT test results and have my first appointment with the women’s health next week. I am trying to stay positive but the endless amount of googling and waiting is killing me. Does anyone have any similar stories?

I have my everything crossed for you both and very comforting to know your amnio test itself went well @MISSYM4478
Not much has changed my end, I am still waiting to have my amnio test on the 2/5.
It has been delayed due to all our public holidays so I will be 17 weeks going in.

@MySoldier it's the waiting and the psychological torture that is the worst. My OH said last night, I just need to know now so we can move on. It has consumed the last 5 weeks of our lives. Believe me, the thought of the amnio is worse that the procedure itself! I'll let you know how we get on, results this week - keep everything crossed for us!

Thought I would update and let you know that NIPT has come back as low chance for the 3 downs syndrome, Edwards and pateus!

Have an appointment in 2 weeks to decide whether we will have amnio to check for additional chromosome conditions

How are you both doing?

Hi ladies, my amniocentesis results came back and confirmed T21, we are devastated but our choice is made. It's the end of the road for us but I wish you both the very best on your journeys and I hope everything works out for you both.

@MySoldier have you had your amnio appointment now?

MySoldier · 04/05/2022 10:28

Unfortunately yes. The amnio was a bit horrific for me and took a few goes as fluid was not coming out and I was sent to do an emergency morphology scan. The NT Fluid has increased around her, she has fluid on her heart and lungs, a suspected heart and kidney defect and her limbs are 2 weeks behind. They don't think she will survive much longer. Fish results came back and it is Turner syndrome, The positive is it not a genetic issue otherwise they had suggested IVF next time around. It sucks but I was never allowed to grow an attachment to her, my ignorance was my positivity. It is good to have some closure, i am not angry or sad I just feel defeated and once she is delivered we can have a better understanding, grieve, move on and try again with greater strength and knowledge.
I am booked in next week to terminate.
I am sorry I don’t have positive news to share and wish you all the best going forward.

Sending love and support with your next steps 💗💗

MISSYM4478 · 29/05/2022 21:30

@MySoldier I hope you are doing ok, and you too @Annny27 . I am out the other side, they
were so kind at the clinic in the uk. We were just so devastated that it ended this way but we are at peace with our choice. I wish you both the very best on your journeys.

Thought I would update everyone as I searched high and low during my pregnancy for all of thrse threads and hated finding these in pregnancy and not knowing the result.

My little one was born last year aftrt s tough oregnancy and 7mm NT detected at 12 weeks and did infact have a heart defect when born. It was repaired with open heart surgery which was ofcourse traumatic but was successful. It's been a tough ride with a lot of time in ICU and hospital but don't lose hope if you get a high NT reading at 12 weeks. Definitley not the best "no issues" outcome and it wasnt easy but it's a positive outcome to me 💙💙
