Birmingham/W Mids recommendations for 12th birthday

It looks like we might be in Birmingham for our daughter's 12th birthday in May (booked to see a show the day before). Not sure what to do on her actual birthday though, so looking for recommendations. Not sure she'd fancy Cadbury world, possibly Black Country museum but not sure. It doesn't have to be in Birmingham itself as we will have the car, and be travelling north later on anyway.

Just looking for inspiration really! And any recommendations for restaurants also very welcome.

I'm really local and there's lots to do!!

How about the bear grylls experience? I've not been but my brother raves about it. They have different things, they have the wind tunnel flying experience thing, assault courses and so on

Or ghetto golf in Digbeth/crazy golf at star city? That's always fun.

georgedawes · 01/04/2022 11:46

Thanks! Off to google

What does she like? My DD is 11 soon and wants to go to a dr who themed escape room that is in the city centre. She also considered the adventure golf in the bullring, places where you can play with VR headsets, the cinema, Drayton manor (not in Birmingham but not too far away in the car), the big water park in Coventry. She wants to eat sushi, I am hoping Yo Sushi is back to the proper experience with the food on the conveyor belt

CornishGem1975 · 01/04/2022 12:15

Mine love going to Rush www.rushuk.com

What do you like in terms of restaurants? Depends on what you eat as a family! Dishoom or Albert Schloss are nice. I also like Gas Street Social, Mowgli, Fazenda, Fumo...but there are literally hundreds to choose from.

@badlydrawnbear I went to Yo recently and it's still ordered on the app and it arrives on the conveyor belt to your table. I quite like it though!

georgedawes · 01/04/2022 12:42

Thanks so much! The water park and Bear Grylls adventure look just like the kind of thing she'd love.

Rock up at five ways is fun. Indoor rock climbing.

I second the suggestion of Rock Up, the complex where it is also has a bowling alley and arcade.
There are many restaurants along Broad Street and Brindleyplace, which are not too far (walking distance).

Danikm151 · 01/04/2022 14:09

Do not take your 12 year old to ghetto golf unless you want to explain some questionable things haha

Broadway plaza is an idea, cinema, bowling, mini golf and climbing.
There are loads of vouchers available for bear grylls. - parking cost is through the roof though.

There's a Go Ape in Cannock Chase (lovely spot on northern outskirts of B'ham), plus cycle hire, segway tours etc.

mummyh2016 · 01/04/2022 14:33

I was going to suggest go ape as well. Also Alton towers.

Crystal Leisure Centre
Warwick Castle

Go to resorts world - upstairs there is an ace arcade . Son who is 15 loves it . You can often get vouchers on groupon for tokens to spend

God, The Vortex. I've spent so much money in there. Good arcade machines though.
CornishGem1975 · 01/04/2022 15:14

Also ResortsWorld has the Hollywood Bowl and Diner now.

babyboyHarrison · 01/04/2022 15:18

There is an escape room at resorts world too.

What's a reasonable number of tokens to need for a trip their (half a day?). There's a groupon for 80 tokens at half price - is that enough to have a good time?

CornishGem1975 · 01/04/2022 15:27

Yeah, that's not a bad amount. I normally top up their card to about £15 each (we don't go that often!) and from what I remember £1 is normally 4 tokens but some games are more tokens than others.

Check when you want to go though as I think the Groupon can only be used Mon-Fri.

cutebutscary · 01/04/2022 15:53

Yes that should be enough

Ohhhh yes I clearly didn't quite think this one through. It's fun for the adults though Grin

The one at star city is kid friendly if you do have an urge for mini golf!

SunflowerSmith · 01/04/2022 19:39

Go Ape on Cannock Chase is nowhere near the outskirts of Brum, it's a good 20 miles north and Alton Towers even further.

If you have a National Trust membership there are quite a few properties in the Midlands

Yes but OP also said it doesn't have to be in brum and they're travelling north afterwards anyway. Cannock Chase and Alton Towers are both north of Brum.

SnowDome in Tamworth is fun (appreciate it's further away) Bear Grylls is a good shout.
