I’ve just had a lightbulb moment!

Well, maybe I have!

Was just thinking to myself (you can tell how exciting the inside of my head is) why the two holes at the end of our noses are called nostrils.

And then it hit me (sooo much excitement going on for me right now) - nose holes, thanks to ease of pronunciation, must’ve evolved into nostrils! I must be on to something mustn’t I?!

Yes, from nosethril.

Oh! I didn’t know someone had discovered this before me. I thought I’d had a groundbreaking moment.

I had a similar moment when reading Jane Austen and hearing a week referred to as 'se'en night which I deduced must be an abbreviated form of 'seven nights'
Clever me, then commented to husband that this must be how we got the word 'fortnight' Shortened from 'fourteen nights '
Yes, he already knew that!

I’m very sorry @PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle but I knew that too.

I’ve moved on from pondering nostrils now to pondering tonsils. Tonsils = something to do with tongues perhaps?
