Snow flurries in East London

Is this some cosmic April fools joke I am not party to? Cos it isn’t funny , higher power, it isn’t funny at all. I would have loved a bit of snow round about December/January, but I have things I want to do in April that don’t call for snow. Oh, and now the sun is shining so I can see how filthy my back windows are, ha ha ha, jokes on me.

West Yorkshire just had a full day yesterday of thick snow. It's melted now but we did have a snowball fight on the way to school Grin

We had flurries yesterday and early this morning - south London.

It's not unusual to have snow at this time of year - my birthday is in a few days time and over the many years I have had snow several times, including quite deep, settled snow. I also remember several years where it was hot enough for sunbathing in the garden. April is a weird month.

Me too. People forget it snows in April but when it's on your birthday you remember!

We got married on April 2nd and it snowed. I was frozen, then we flew to Ibiza and we were on the last flight out of Manchester Airport before it closed due to snow on runway. It was lovely in Ibiza.

Same as Bella I’m in West Yorkshire, plenty of snow yesterday it flattened loads of daffodils in the garden so I’m going to cut them and bring them in the house, most of it melted but I can still see quite a bit on the moors, house faces the pennies. It started snowing when I was out with the dogs earlier but the suns out now

V brief graupel-type flurry yesterday afternoon in SW London, and according to DS2 a couple more in the evening too

If it was an April Fool, they started too early!!

My FB memories recently are all snow related. It often snows in late March/early April.

It's been snowing on and off in Norfolk for the last two days.

We've had quite a lot. The refuse collector this morning was using the snow from the top of my bin to make snowballs to chuck at his colleagues. The outdoor fitness class I go to posted pictures of the giant, taller than a person, balls of snow they made during training. I watched jealously as I'm stuck at home with a child with covid.

I remember the March the child was born it was freezing cold, then we had a heatwave and it was roasting and I had to go buy some footless rompers for the poor kid as his siblings were all proper winter babies so I had nothing for hot weather. Then it snowed.

I am so pleased I started this thread, if I hadn’t I might never have learned about graupel snow! Thank you @SquirmOfEels.

Some tiny flakes here yesterday (SW London) but the cloud soon passed. Very cold wind!

I remember a positive blizzard in April many years ago when I was driving - off to get a dd’s summer school uniform. This was south of London. So snow in April would never really surprise me - especially not at the moment - it’s bloody cold here!

Scarby9 · 01/04/2022 10:35

Lying snow here today i East Yorks - looks beautiful in the sun.

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 01/04/2022 10:40

Driving through Kent yesterday morning it was positively Narnia-esque. Return in the afternoon through brilliant sunshine and blue skies!

I recall an Easter break in a caravan, waking up to snow one morning, which was unexpected.

This ^^
I've known many a snowy Easter since living here...no big deal

SquirmOfEels · 01/04/2022 11:26

@viques

I'd never heard of graupel either before I came across it on MN!

(If anyone else is wondering it's a sort of soft hail, where it's coming in down in mini snowy balls like little expanded polystyrene balls)

TodayWeShark · 01/04/2022 11:33

In East London too and we had snow yesterday, but hmmm... it's bright blue skies right now?

nearlyspringyay · 01/04/2022 11:54

We London and we had hail yesterday and snow this morning. It's bloody cold.

Scarby9 · 01/04/2022 16:04
