Do you like the people you work with...

I'm thinking of applying for a new job, and have been considering it for a while now, but the people I work with are so lovely they it puts me off. To be honest that's the reason I have stayed so long. My DH said to me, but how do I know colleagues at my new job are not just as nice.

So it had me wondering, how many people get on really well with their colleagues

Yes I do. Team of 5 women. They're not necessarily people I'd spend time with outside work but we always have a laugh.

Futuroute · 01/04/2022 07:03

What you need to bear in mind is that, at work, people come and people go. The people you work with now might have moved on a few years down the line, even if you stay in the same role. It's more important to be in a job role that's right for you.

You spend a lot of time at work. I’ve worked one place where I really liked my colleagues, popped round their houses, had a laugh, went on holiday with some of them, I dreaded moving on. But I did, that was 20 years ago, still friends.

The place I moved to, a promotion, didn’t like colleagues and worse didn’t trust them, it wasn’t a comfortable or nice place to work. I learnt a lot though.

Moved on to another place that’s more my fit, like the people, trust them. Trust is important to me. I’m staying. But that bit in the middle taught me a lot…

I guess I’m saying that if people are friends they’ll be friends regardless of the job.

I like the people I work with, who are supportive of me and each other (and I hope I am too). We get on well and work well together. They are work colleagues not friends though, there is no socialising or contact outside of work.

Rrrob · 01/04/2022 07:20

Nope. A woman in my team has decided I’m a monster (I’m the most laid back, accommodating boss around) and has set out to bad name me and make my life hell.

Ambition9to5 · 01/04/2022 07:22

Yes. There have been a few horrors but they left!!!
One woman fawned obsequiously over everybody around us and simultaneously iced me. Just really blatant about having two personalities depending on whether or not you could validate her/serve her/fire her or not

VladsPants · 01/04/2022 07:23

I get along with them for my own sake. Like is probably a bit strong though. Tolerate?

LondonQueen · 01/04/2022 07:24

I get on work most of them, there's the odd one I wouldn't mind losing!

LondonQueen · 01/04/2022 07:25

*with!

Cloverforever · 01/04/2022 07:30

Yes, team of 5 women and 1 man and we all get on really well. Makes a big difference when things get stressful.

nearlyspringyay · 01/04/2022 08:20

Wes re good team but they are
Colleagues not friends.

EmmaStone · 01/04/2022 08:23

Yes, my wider team are fantastic, largely women, strong leaders, supportive, kind. And I've just told them I'm leaving 😩. I'm hopeful the next place will be similar.

Redbluelellow · 01/04/2022 08:26

Yes lovely bunch I'm with atm about to move jobs, previous role to this was difficult to leave because the people were so nice but glad I did stayed in touch and moved to an equally nice team.
Worked in a toxic environment previously about 5 years ago absolutely horrid nasty people - I think it is rare to have to work with a entire group that are all awful.

NdefH81 · 01/04/2022 08:26

@Rrrob

Nope. A woman in my team has decided I’m a monster (I’m the most laid back, accommodating boss around) and has set out to bad name me and make my life hell.
Tbh “the most laid back and accommodating boss” really isn’t my idea of a good boss
ToooOldForThis · 01/04/2022 08:26

I like them but they don't seem to like meConfused
I agree with whoever said it goes in cycles though, it really does, and it doesn't take many people to change it in either direction
