My energy provider is just after announcing another price hike of 25% from May.
I am energy concise but this scares me now. I did some rough calculations and a 25% increase and it's going to be very hard next winter. I live at home with my mom and the bills are shared but still this is going to be though. She can be careless with the energy but I can't force her to make energy concise choices like reducing the temperature on the washing machine.

Last night I had a load of laundry ready but I presoaked in the bath overnight with vanish and then this morning I wrung the water out on them and put them in the machine for a quick 20 minute, 30 degree wash. This was a load of t-shirts and tops and some socks and they looked clean and white coming out of the wash.
What kind of changes can be made to reduce the bills? Unfortunately it's an old house so we won't be going down the route of putting in money for eco friendly changes like solar panels and other eco friendly stuff because the money isn't there.
