What's London like in half term?

Just that really. Is it absolutely rammed in all the museums, attractions etc, I assume local-ish families head in for day trips etc, as well as people making little city breaks of it?
Am I bonkers to take the DC over the Whitson half term?

No you aren't bonkers. But yes, it can be busy. But I never thought of not taking DD during the school holidays.

Not sure but up to recently you had to book tickets in the museums for crowd control, still free but you had to show a ticket.

For everything else I always book tickets in advance anyway.

But, when are your holidays? London has it from the 30th May to 3rd June and obviously there is the 2 day BH weekend on the 2/3 June. And then London will be packed, I haven't seen any events scheduled but I know we will avoid London during these days this year.

Avoid the Junilee weekend. Earlier would be fine. Book tickets in advance if you need them. Check where you want to go and book up if necessary.

Depends on where you are going - NHM and SM will be rammed. Anything less child-focused should be fine.
