The everlasting ulcer

Not sure if I should worry?

DD (8) has had a mouth ulcer for almost two weeks now and it won’t go despite regular applications of bonjela.

It started out absolutely enormous and raised and is much smaller now but fluctuates in size day to day, some days it’s so flat and small we expect it to be gone the next day but then the next it’s large and raised again.

The colour fluctuates too, one day it will the typical white ulcer colour, the next the same colour as the surrounding skin.

I’m starting to feel quite worried about it but don’t want to look like an idiot if I call the doctors for a mouth ulcer.

Are they supposed to fluctuate in size and change colour..?

I don’t know about the size and colour issue, but Bonjela is rubbish IME. Try some Ambesol. It hurts a lot when applied but takes them away quickly.

I have had ulcers that last two weeks
Especially when I was younger and the area would swell and I’d inadvertently bite the area or something.

In my experience there was quite a clear trajectory- they would get bigger, peak, and then heal. But that’s just my limited experience.

There is a link to lack of b12 so I’d look into that.

Is it a GP that could help if you are concerned? It was my dentist who referred me to a dental hospital for help with mine.

Also. Please don’t let the idea of being laughed at for going in for something silly be the reason for not seeking medical assistance.

Speak to your dentist. They will take a mouth ulcer that's been there for 2 weeks seriously and they will not laugh at you. Trust me.
