Sturdy ironing board that isn't too big and fits a steam generator.

Hi all

I have a steam generator iron and need to upgrade my ironing board to a sturdy one. I want one that isn't too long but still wide enough for the iron to fit on. They all seem very massive and expensive these days and I need to carry up from the basement.

Thank you!

I’ve recently bought a steam generator iron and it’s amazing for ironing everything, but bedding especially (have a holiday let and do my own laundry). My ironing board is not the most sturdy and I didn’t want to put the weight of the steam generator on it as it’s just so heavy, so I use a small stool at the side to place the base/tank on, and just have the iron sitting on the board in the usual place. Can’t recommend an ironing board though but thought it was worth mentioning as works well for me.

Steam generating irons are pretty chunky so a narrow ironing board probably won't work.

I have a steam generator with this ironing board which is pretty big but it does have wheels on it, not much help with stairs from the basement but if you could find a cupboard elsewhere it might work. I've had mine for over ten years and have just replaced the cover, it is really sturdy and still looks like new. I paid £25 or £30 from Robert Days so it is quite a bit of money at the current £60 price tag. They have just revamped it and apart from a different cover it looks the same, the newer model is £96.00, I'll be looking after the one I have at that price.
