NeedleNoodle3 · 30/03/2022 15:22

I’m 53
Next
Apricot
Occasionally I get lucky in Peacocks and M&S
Hush
Schuh shoe shop
I mainly wear casual clothes and have a few going separates I mix and match.

Frillyfruli · 30/03/2022 15:23

Very late 40s - Free People, Anthropologie, Asos, & Other Stories, H&M mostly. A bit of Zara if I actually go to the shops but I don't trust their sizing and their website is shite so I don't buy online from them!

dottydodah · 30/03/2022 15:27

Mid 50s still like M and s .and Monsoon is a favourite also .Next also good .Do go on Ebay a lot as well.

Supersimkin2 · 30/03/2022 15:27

Zara, arket, M&S for cashmere and dresses; tk maxx gold label for Marni and Margiela. Charity shops for steals like men’s cashmere jerseys and new plimsolls. ASOS for makeup.

Juniper68 · 30/03/2022 15:27

53 and charity shops, Vinted, supermarkets, Next, New look sometimes TK Maxx. I like hippy casual look. Dresses for nights out.
It depends on your shape too. I'm quite curvy size 14 with bum and boobs.

MissyB1 · 30/03/2022 15:36

M&S
Tu at Sainsburys
White Stuff
George Asda

TheOrigRights · 30/03/2022 15:40

Today I am wearing a Uniqlo sweater over an M&S thermal, an M&S mini skirt, M&S thick black tights and Ugg boots (changed these for Clarks boot when I went out).

I have lots of Uniqlo, Next (jeans), Mango (also jeans), Zara (also jeans...I like jeans), Primark, White Stuff (not much), M&S, Sainsbury's.
And I wear a lot of sports clothes because I WFH and do a lot of sport.

I am 51.

TheOrigRights · 30/03/2022 15:41

Oh yes, I've also just discovered & Other Stories

Parker231 · 30/03/2022 15:41

Age doesn’t define where you shop. Am late 40’s and usually wear skinny jeans, white trainers and a T-shirt. Same as I was wearing in my 20’s. Difference is now I buy better quality brands.

Age might not define where you shop, and of course anyone can wear whatever they like, but I think it's common for people to find that the high-end fashion stores they loved in their teens and 20s don't really meet what they want to wear in their 50s.

Not that many 50-somethings wear cropped, boxy tops for day to day stuff, or go out to night clubs wearing tiny shorts.

I think the OP wants suggestions for good places to shop when you don't want to wear what you did in your 20s.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/03/2022 16:25

Fat face
Boden
White stuff
Hobbs
Next
Phase 8
Monsoon

brokengoalposts · 30/03/2022 16:27

I agree age doesn't define what I wear but I do prefer to get better quality clothes now than when I was younger, so just saying "wear what you want" is unhelpful. I heard on the radio the other day that over 53's shouldn't wear jeans, well that's just plainly ridiculous. I've worn jeans my whole life, I wore them in the 70's when they became the default clothing for nearly the whole western world, I'm not going to stop wearing them now, I do however want better cut than Top Shop would offer me.

Enzbear · 30/03/2022 16:30

Calvin Klein
All saints
Next - t-shirts, leggings, socks, basics etc
Mango
Zara
360 Cashmere
Karen Millen
Levi
Boutiques
Superdry for gym, lounge stuff
Occasionally M&S

Fidodidit · 30/03/2022 16:33

Why “over 53s”? That’s very specific! I cleared out my wardrobe and realised I had a lot of clothes which I had been wearing for over 20 years. I’m 49 now so decided on that basis what I’m going to buy now could last me to the grave so I might as well get what I want and the best I can afford.

Forgot to mention I’ve been shopping a bit from Brora of late. The Hush jeans I like are always for sale there and eBay but I find the sizing inconsistent which is annoying.

Fidodidit · 30/03/2022 16:34

Hush jeans not for sale from Brora! Weird brain diversion- I meant Vinted.

Moonface123 · 30/03/2022 16:38

Basically anywhere, 53, tall and slim, prefer the casual bohemian look.

Gardeningfool · 30/03/2022 16:40

Cos or Kin (John Lewis Cos lookalike brand) for more work-y stuff , M&S & Fatface for jeans, Uniqlo for t-shirts, jumpers and shirts, Office & TK Maxx for boots & trainers, Toast sale for the occasional treat. Oh, and M&S for underwear. I'm 61, and if anything I've started dressing more casually over the last few years, as I WFH a lot more.

SoupDragon · 30/03/2022 16:44

Esprit mostly.

Plus Primark and H&M

woodhill · 30/03/2022 16:49

54

Seasalt
Fatface
Whitestuff
John Lewis brand
M&S

I used to like Laura Ashley

Ozanj · 30/03/2022 16:51

Depends on your figure. I know a lot of 50 yos who buy high end designer if they can afford it / looks good & they look amazing in it

TheOrigRights · 30/03/2022 16:56

I heard on the radio the other day that over 53's shouldn't wear jeans,

What the hell station was that? And what happens at 53?

I'll have you know that I look great in my skinny flares. I am tall and slim and if I wear a small heel by legs look 8 foot long. So there.

TheOrigRights · 30/03/2022 17:00

Does wearing better cut and quality clothing make more of a difference as we get older because skin is less tight, maybe with wrinkles and sun damage?

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 30/03/2022 17:24

Asda Sainsbury’s next

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 30/03/2022 17:26

Sainsburys, B&Q, Morrisons, Tesco, Asda...

for clothes mainly Sains and Tesco.
