Aldi for main shop and Tesco or Asda for the branded stuff.

CambsAlways · 30/03/2022 14:35

I am mid sixties and I actually don’t think about age groups as long as things look nice and classy if I’m going out and not ott, I dress for my personality more than what’s age appropriate so mines Next, River Island, H&M New look, in fact what ever takes my fancy, I’m quite a confident person though!

I'm into retro 40s/50s stuff so Collectif, Freddies of Pinewood(amazing jeans) , Vivien of Holloway .

CheekyMaw · 30/03/2022 14:40

Ps I'm 51

bloodywhitecat · 30/03/2022 14:43

Fat Face, White Stuff, Next, John Lewis (58)

HuntingoftheSnark · 30/03/2022 14:45

Next, Hobbs, Whistles, Jigsaw, M&S. Pretty much the same as my twenties, just slightly different styles - I still wear stuff from Top Shop too.

brokengoalposts · 30/03/2022 14:49

54 and I shop for clothes in the supermarkets, I get some really nice every day items. You have to look hard for a lot of it though and by pass the more boring stuff. The same with chain stores such as Next, RI, H&M, Zara and M&S. I then have some classic pieces from Hush, Em & Me, Saint + Sofia, Forgotten Tribes, etc.
I spend a lot on good quality shoes, I think at my age I need a good shoe, lol, and they set an outfit of perfectly. I have DM's, Veja, Gabor, Steve Madden.

Birdfooddirect · 30/03/2022 14:51

Late 50's, French Connection, All Saints, Free People etc I like a rustic look certainly not classic

brokengoalposts · 30/03/2022 14:52

If you google styles for over 40's, rather than over 50's and you'll find some styles you'll like. I find if you look at over 50's stuff it is more like over 70.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/03/2022 14:53

I'm 57 Current favourites are brakeburn and Fat face, mostly bought via eBay, for budgetary and environmental reasons, but find older clothes are better fabrics

Worldgonecrazy · 30/03/2022 14:57

TK Maxx, Primark.

I used to spend more (John Lewis, selfridges etc) but got over my clothes snobbery and also got fitter so now I wear clothes that are less dowdy than those I wore in my 20s and 30s.

Are we really ‘not allowed’ to wear what makes us look and feel good because we happen to be a certain age?

Please don’t tell me I need to buy one of those shapeless cheesecloth sacks that seem to be targeted at women of a certain age.

CountryCousin · 30/03/2022 14:57

I don’t shop for an ‘age group’ - because I’m not 5 years old. Grin

I look for clothes I like, that I think will suit me in terms of fit, aesthetic appeal, quality, appropriateness for weather and occasion, enjoyment in wearing …

I don’t like throwaway items, but I do want to look fairly ‘fashion forward’ - even avant-garde once in a while. Happy to shop in any price bracket, but not keen on High St shops that had their peak in a previous century.

MakingMemoriesIsShite · 30/03/2022 14:58

Early 50s.

Mostly Boden, Jigsaw, M&S (underwear and cashmere), Hobbs, Ralph Lauren, TK Maxx, local independents with things made in the UK, Ebay. It's generally 'classic' bits which I won't get sick of and which are neither fashionable nor unfashionable - pencil skirts, dresses, jumpers, blouses. I am petite so the 'neat' look suits me - I look like a bag lady in things from White Stuff/Hush etc. No jeans or trousers as I hate them.

I tend to go less for particular shops/labels, though, and more for natural fibres (wool, cotton, cashmere, linen). I won't wear anything made of artificial fibre (God knows who M&S think they're appealing to with 'recycled polyester' knitwear), and try to avoid anything made in China, both of which rule out most supermarket stuff.

skippy67 · 30/03/2022 14:59

Asos
H&M
Next
Zara
New Look
M&S
Reiss, but only in the sales!

Thewindwhispers · 30/03/2022 15:01

Seasalt, Monsoon, The White Company. I’m pear-shaped so Boden/Hobbs etc are no good to me. Monsoon and Seasalt are very good at doing cuts that hide the bulge!

SirChenjins · 30/03/2022 15:04

Most of the places already listed - but I’m finding it harder to find stuff I like or that fits me (5’ 1”, pear shaped, size 10-12, need smart-casual stuff - it’s like finding a needle in a haystack)

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 30/03/2022 15:09

Jigsaw, Massimo Dutti, Toast selectively (love some of it but quite a lot is hideous), Ghost, Me & Em, John Lewis.

Purpleavocado · 30/03/2022 15:10

What kind of clothes do you like? I'm 50, and mainly shop as suggested above. I don't shop anywhere like Top Shop anymore... did that close down?
I look for things that aren't too clingy but that are also fairly fashionable without going overboard. There are lots of over 40's and 50's bloggers for inspiration.

Iheartmysmart · 30/03/2022 15:10

Anywhere I see stuff I like which to be fair doesn’t happen very often as I favour the teenage grunge look! Currently wearing ancient jeans, a Stiff Little Fingers band t-shirt from a recent gig and dinosaur socks. I’m 54 and should be more ladylike according to my mum.

Ylfa · 30/03/2022 15:14

Increasingly make my own clothes (vintage textiles) and someone always asks ‘did you get that from Free People’ so maybe try there? I’m 51.

beguilingeyes · 30/03/2022 15:17

Ebay for pretty much everything these days except underwear and shoes. I like Phase Eight, Monsoon, Hobbs, Jigsaw, Boden. Increasingly M&S for jeans.

maddy68 · 30/03/2022 15:19

Next or tescos

WirlyWillowtree · 30/03/2022 15:20

White stuff, fat face, Next (M&S for sports wear, and underwear)

Fidodidit · 30/03/2022 15:20

Finisterre, Hush, Jigsaw
