If you were planning to submit a meter reading to EDF on Thursday…

… don’t bother?

If you are in a variable tariff, they have already Ali most doubled the prices.

Does anybody know when they put the price up? I don’t want to be charged the higher price for the full month. I was expecting to pay £66 given we have had the central heating mostly off this month, instead they have calculated £130 for the period from 1 to 28 March. Angry

Variable rate price increase is from April. Increasing the direct debit doesn't mean your tariff changed at that point. Octopus says our new rate starts from 2nd April

Aposterhasnoname · 29/03/2022 23:07

It’s illegal for them to charge above the cap if you’re on variable rate, before 1st April.

TheBigDilemma · 29/03/2022 23:08

That’s exactly what I thought, but when I submitted mg meter reading today and got the biggest bill I have ever got, I checked the app and the smart meter and both are displaying the tariff that was advertised to become active from 1st April.

I’m not talking about increasing the Direct Debit. When you enter the meters details you get the bill for the actual amount you owe not the direct debit. The app shows they have deducted the amount £130 from the credit I have.

Have you queried it? I'm also with EDF on variable and the smart meter is still showing the same tariff. I tend to get billed middle of the month but am assuming (hoping) the last fortnight of March will be billed on pre-April tariff as per smart meter

cloudylemonade13 · 29/03/2022 23:18

Should have added I don't pay by DD

Would you be so kind of checking the price per kilowatt you are getting in the EDF app? I doubt very much this is only happening to me, but if it is… there is hope!

TheBigDilemma · 29/03/2022 23:25

I have been paying directly (non direct debit) as well so don’t understand why the prize per kilowatt hour went up before the official date.

Price, not prize… that would be nice!

Don't have the app but can tell you we've used 16.37 kw today which is showing as £1.87 (for both gas/elec) if that helps?

TabithaTittlemouse · 29/03/2022 23:45

I need to do mine tomorrow. Also with edf on variable tariff but pay by monthly dd. Sad

Thank you for checking, my smart meter shows a small amount if you have it set to £ values which is pretty similar to yours but, if you obtain the usage in Kwh and the actual price per kWh from the meter, multiplying the amount of KWh by the new tariff it doesn’t match the amount in pounds calculated by the meter (meter not multiplying correctly) but matches those reflected in the high bill I got when I entered the actual meter readings.

Oh that's interesting, will check mine properly later and going to submit a reading tomorrow! Did you query your bill?

Ecosralayce · 31/03/2022 06:53

They are displaying the new prices on the app and your account on line, but they are not charging those prices until April 1st. Are you checking the amounts on the actual smart meter, and not the In House Display unit? The IHD often is slightly out and not what is used to calculate bills.

Ecosralayce · 31/03/2022 06:57

also, you say you have been paying directly, not by direct deebit, but then you say you wer ein credit which is what they deducted the payment from? Not sure I understand how you could have been in credit if you had been paying actual usage each month?

TheBigDilemma · 01/04/2022 00:37

Yep, I only set up the direct debit this month, the direct debit is £150, the bill came for less than that.

You can have both, if you pay the bill the direct debit is charged regardless.

OP posts:
TheBigDilemma · 01/04/2022 00:39

That means, you pay twice, but I didn’t know you could until I did thinking the direct debit was not yet confirmed.

OP posts:
TheBigDilemma · 01/04/2022 00:41

And yes, I have been checking the meters plus smart meter. They match with a tiny difference

We have moved and are now with them. I tried using the account number on the letter we had through the door to register an account today to be able to submit a reading and they’re conveniently setting up a new part of their site so I won’t be able to activate my account until it’s ready, how fly!

TheBigDilemma · 01/04/2022 01:00

E.ON dud the same bug backtracked on that and said you can report later if you had photos of the meters. Can you get the photos done in the hope they get accepted by EDF?

Apparently you don’t have to send a meter reading today if you have a smart meter but my smart meter fails to function well so often that I couldn’t risk getting an “estimated reading” today if all days.
