I just had a baby 3 months ago, and during labour I lost 2300mls of blood. I had to have 2 blood transfusions during my stay in the hospital. I was anaemic and very weak when I was discharged from the hospital and my haemoglobin level was 92g/L. 3 months have passed and I now feel very extremely weak, I struggle to even do normal daily activities, I am finding it hard to even cook, or shower. I have severe migraines and feel very lightheaded. I have told my gp but they don’t do anything. Should I go to the hospital?

You should have had your iron levels re-checked at you 6-8wk appointment with the GP. If this wasn't done, ask them to do it.

I haven't been sent an appointment. I will book it but right now I just feel so weak that I am considering just going to the hospital. I feel like I either need more blood or an iron drip, I feel so lightheaded and I'm having heart palpitations

I would go and get checked out today, good luck.

Oh no, I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad and weak!

If it's really serious, I would go to the hospital - there's usually a long wait, but hopefully they'll start testing you there and then. Please be careful to sanitise every time you touch something, and wear a mask to protect yourself. Last thing you want is to pick something up.

But if it's manageable from day to day, by all means go to your GP to get blood tests to check not only iron, but for anything else.

MadisonMontgomery · 29/03/2022 15:55

I think A&E would be overkill, just contact your Gp’s and ask if you can get your bloods done.

Luhou · 29/03/2022 16:16

Have you been taking iron tablets? You can just get them over the counter like a vitamin.

Xpologog · 29/03/2022 16:37

Heart palpitations plus weakness = go to hospital if GP won’t / can’t see you and do blood test straight away.
My GP did, blood test results next day, GP sent for ambulance to take me to hospital for several units of blood plus iron transfusion.

Contact your GP again and absolutely insist on blood tests immediately.

Or call 111.

Oh no! Do you remember how many units your haemoglobin, or iron was? Xx
