Just signed my first book contract !
Started writing it january last year and finished in february this year, first publisher I approached has accepted it, so happy. Smile
It's for any age over 8 -108 it's a [humourous so I'm told] story about red squirrels on the isle of wight coming into conflict with the main land greys who think there is an endless supply of all year round food and the reds are keeping it for themselves.
The greys are determined to get to the island by any means and the reds are equally determined to keep them out.
Hoping to make a real go of it, fingers crossed.
Did anyone else get their 'inner book' out during the lockdowns?

@iheartmybeachhut

takingmytime there are several reds residing near the Garlic Farm at arreton. Also if you are in the langbridge area near sandown there is a cafe called 'peddlars' it is a favourite hangout too, we've been there and the squirrels will sit on the patio chairs and tables. One of the best places we know of though, is at Alverstone Mead nature reserve There is a hide on Burnt House lane. The local wildlife trust has set up feeders for the squirrels and they are very active. We saw 5 or 6 the other day and one was about 2 metres away eatting some squirrel food from a feeder. There ia a local lady known as the 'squirrel whisperer' she's there every weekend and what she doesn't know isn't worth knowing about them !
Thank you so much. We had planned to visit the Garlic Farm anyway, and I'd looked up Pedallers Cafe already as we're also planning a bike ride.

I saw them at Godshill and Osborne House last time, but from quite a distance, so I'd love to see them close up. 😃

@iheartmybeachhut

Once it's published I'll post up a synopsis and let you know the title [current one is not final], publisher and cost. I plan to donate a portion of proceeds to the Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust charity who help our furry friends on the island. Big shout out to Helen and Beth !
Oh how wonderful! That is very exciting! Let's hope you get a film deal out of it too!! 🙌📚🎞🍿🥂

Congratulations OP. I have heard it is very difficult to get a book published so they must rate it. I've never been to the Isle of Wight, it sounds lovely.

Sandinmyhooves · 28/03/2022 22:27

Is it a picture book OP or chapter?

salsmum · 30/03/2022 00:04

Great news op well done! I've had one book in print by lulu self publishers but have material for another but I'm not very computer savvy... I have many people wanting a copy of my book ( when published) and have been accepted by publishers ... BUT they always want a large fee with little guarantee of sales Hmm I'd love to find a publisher who would pay me with no huge fees upfront. X

Sandinmyhooves · 30/03/2022 08:40

God never go with a publisher who is asking a fee! That is not legit. I mean, it’s vanity publishing so it’s a model but it’s not okay.

ClaudineClare · 30/03/2022 09:03

Money flows from publisher to author not the other way around!

Vanity publishers are sharks who rip off people who don't know how legitimate publishing works.

The best way to do that is to submit your work to agents.
