Oh that still happens. You are NOT allowed to ask for new topics. Because things mustn’t get hidden/banished. Everyone must read every thread about everything.

Here since 2006, I think. I had just discovered Mini Boden. But I have had approximately 2 million usernames --because I'm paranoid-

I believe Sleb Twaddle has gone, and the Creative Writing topic has just taken over the whole of AIBU.

I was here in 2004, DH worked away. I'd settle down in the evening. Check how many new posts had been made since I'd last logged in. You could pretty much scan through the whole thing.
The standard of spelling, punctuation and quick fire humour was amazing and intimidating, people used to lurk a lot.
But it was the intellectual boost I so needed after a day of childcare niceness.
I'm here now looking for the acid wit to get me through the fucking menopause.

Aye. It used to be simultaneously funny and erudite.

I used to feel seriously outclassed on many fronts.

Oh there were real professionals then. And so many clever and well read posters. Now it seems so banal, I'm constantly having to sit on my hands. If I'm told to play nice again I'd be off. Guess thats where so many posters i liked went.

Everybody posts in AIBU or chat now “for the traffic” so there’s always vehement objections to a new topic because then things are being “hidden away”

Yes ‘hidden away’ in a topic especially for that subject. Where you can find it. 😂

I remember during late night feeds looking at threads with no replies and replying something just to be polite.

Also we saw off trolls by bumping everything else until their threads just disappeared.

I remember that, the latter is very frowned upon nowadays. Which seems a shame.

I've not been on MN that long but I was a Bounty user back in the day and recognise a few names from this thread!

Mumsnet Hq once changed the board so every topic was. “Who the hell does iCod think she is” or something for an hour. 😀😀

Well this thread just hit me in the face with all the names from the past. I joined in 2006 when I was having trouble breastfeeding Ds2 who is now about to sit his GCSEs.

I just used to lurk in the background, admiring all the cool kids with their confidence and witty remarks. I never thought I would still be here. Love MN.
