@sarahandquack and now I've just caught up the news about Bof. I feel very sad.

Mumsnet was truly joyous at points during my life. I really value the emotional boost it gave me from reading lots of your comments.

packedlunches · 30/03/2022 17:40

I am going to jump on and praise any of you who were around in 2008 when I had my first baby. I was absolutely clueless and had a baby who would not stop crying. I'm not over exaggerating when I say that I was on the verge of or possibly having a nervous breakdown.
I had such great advice and was shown such kindness at that time. A lot of the suggestions were truly helpful at a time when I had no friends or family close by to help.

exLtEveDallas · 30/03/2022 17:43

I came here when DD was just over 1, panicking because she had started refusing milk. That little girl has just gone out for her first driving lesson Shock and I’m in a panic again Grin

I was so upset when we lost BoF, I had something cool planned for her trip to Anglesey and was gutted that it couldn’t happen. Her and her wonderful boobs are very much missed.

packedlunches · 30/03/2022 17:54

That's really sad about BoF - I remember her well.

Aretina · 30/03/2022 18:01

Does anyone remember alexpolismum? She was very kind to me. We got chatting on a thread about bilingual families and she gave me lots of helpful advice. I know she lived in the EU somewhere. I hope it all worked out for her, with Brexit and everything.

I feel the same. I really loved MN and it was such an important space for me too. And BoF was just brilliant without being up herself about it at all.

(I would also love to hear her tell me yet again that English Lit degrees ruin your enjoyment of reading, each time with every eager anticipation that this time I would finally agree! Grin)

I'm still in touch with her. She's fine - still craving British cheese and her children always sound fabulous when she describes them.
Aretina · 30/03/2022 18:45

Still craving British cheese?!

Hahaha! I remember she told me how to say cheese in several languages. Sadly I don't remember them now, except Welsh.

I'm glad to hear she's ok. She may like to know that her advice was helpful and we got back on track with the bilingualism.

Grin Oh I bet (about the cheese languages).

I once got set on a plan to send her a Stilton through the post. It involved googling how long a wheel would stay frozen and how fast post to where she was would be. I didn't manage, needless to say.

Greensleeves · 30/03/2022 18:55

SGB is still here sporadically

Aretina · 30/03/2022 19:01

Sending cheese through the post? Sounds like a mad plan!

But since you mention it, now I want to know how long a wheel of cheese would stay frozen for in the post. It might even have worked, assuming it arrived in a couple of days.

SarahAndQuack · 30/03/2022 19:02

I have in mind that it might stay frozen for a matter of days, being quite solid. The real kicker was, of course, that it's illegal.

Aretina · 30/03/2022 19:04

There's an actual law against posting cheese?!

The things you learn.

SarahAndQuack · 30/03/2022 19:07

Delightfully, if you google something like 'can I send cheese to Europe,' you discover that sending cheese by post is actually something quite a lot of people were daft enough to be- considering.

ChocAuVin · 30/03/2022 19:44

Registered in 2007 but lurked prior. The thing that sticks most with me about you, Cod, is that you once arrived on a thread, pronounced “You utter, utter nob” to the OP and then left. Still don’t know why it tickled me so.

To be fair, OP was being an utter (utter) nob.

EsmeShelby · 30/03/2022 19:48

2006 when I was pregnant. I've learned a lot about so many things. And new and exciting insults.

I do, fondly.
PaperTyger · 30/03/2022 21:29

Yes, humour is jumped on slapped down and treated with great suspicion... absolutely bizarre When humour is one of the greatest tools we have too cheer each other up?

ToooOldForThis · 30/03/2022 21:52

I had a teeny underweight but healthy bf baby (who is now a hulking teenager) and it was so upsetting and stressful at the time...MN was really and truly the main thing that helped me through. Mainly because of the great advice and calming comments but also thanks to cubes of poo, rivers of sweetcorn and so on.
And "your minge" Still makes me laugh

ToooOldForThis · 30/03/2022 21:53

What was the series of threads about someone going on blind dates??

Laiste · 30/03/2022 21:58

Couple of name changes.

There's a poster here who helped save my sanity back around 2011.

MN has changed, but AIBU is still addictive!

@CaptainCallisto

Goodness me, Cod! You advised seeing the GP about DS on one your potty training threads, and he ended up under the bladder and bowel team for years.

I've been here since 2008 (think I was muppetthecow back then) when I had my first MC. I miss pre-penis-beaker MN...

I always wonder what happened to nickelbabe - I remember her live birth thread and then she sort of disappeared. Hope she's lurking somewhere under another username.

Gosh poor you. I really was no expert. That was utter fluke. I hope he’s ok

@ArtVandalay

Oh I loved that bat! Plus (was it FrannyandZooey?) with those bloody baskets.

Plus the 'real' stories - The woman whose husband died on 9/11 (motherofgirls or something like that), Misdee and her husband's heart transplant, BoF, Onlyjoking, the poster whose lovely daughter died of leukaemia, Ginderella and her dh... So many life stories that have stayed with me.

Me too. Wonder how Biscuitsandbandages family are doing from time to time. And Peter's pink face!
ajandjjmum · 31/03/2022 04:40

@iknowimcoming

Well this is rather lovely! I was never in the quiche, not witty or cool enough, but remember you all fondly. I can still remember hovering over a link thinking 'is this going to be the bat tho!?' and feeling stupid when I'd been had AGAIN!

I often think of yorkiegirl (I think it was) who's husband suddenly died whilst they were on holiday, and how she rebuilt her life and then also tragically lost her second husband Sad

I've shed actual tears over the years on here, the cubed poo being one of my favourites (and the bat) Grin

I'm sorry to hear that she lost her second DH too, that's horrible for her.
