This thread is making me all warm and glowy (vintage of 2006 ish here)

Cod, come back and make Mumsnet great again.

Did autocorrect kill your bad spelling?
Anyway. Good to see all those old MN royalty types back together again.

SausagePourHomme · 29/03/2022 23:16

ah nostalgia - the pre-brexit pre-covid era when all we had to argue about was whether extended breastfeeding was still A Good Thing if child was old enough to then go out into town with their friends

SecretPineapple · 30/03/2022 00:24

I've been here under a billion different names since around 2003 when I was looking up info on the MMR vaccine. I've never really left. I remember all the old names but none of you would know me as I've always been a serial namechanger and never really posted back then.
BupcakesandCunting was just the best username!

JaneIsInsane · 30/03/2022 01:04

It’s nice to see Davros post above. I was a worried mum with a (still very) quirky boy who still has odd traits now at 18! You and Jimjams were so helpful back in 2006 when he was 2yrs and just…odd!

I remember when HMB became MB after the bizarre Tom Cruise/Scientology thread. I’ve no doubt that would be deleted these day. No way would an entire thread calling people ‘weirdos’ stand! Grin I also remember the effort to get MB’s brave husband his MBE honour before he passed away. Sad Her science lessons were always fab too! Such emotional support for her and then the outpouring for Peter and poor baby Maud. MN at its best.

And yes, TSC’s ‘yer minge’ bikini thread! MN made me laugh out loud so very often in those days.

JaneIsInsane · 30/03/2022 01:07

And who was it who started a thread saying she’d tried everything to detangle her DD’s hair including…semen? GrinGrin She was mortified when she read what she’d written in the thread title.

OxanaVorontsova · 30/03/2022 01:34

I’ve been here since the cod / pre moldie days, used to be on the long running multiple births thread, being inspired by lovely mars. Loved cod’s potty training threads and then the weight loss bootcamp. Tried hard to eat as sensibly as franny but failed miserably hence the need for boot camps. I still lurk but rarely post. It’s not the same place as the early days.

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 30/03/2022 01:56

2003 I joined. Many a name change but mostly a lurker. Love hearing all the old names.

OverByYer · 30/03/2022 05:06

Oh Mars, she was so knowledgeable

mathanxiety · 30/03/2022 06:52

I've really missed that bat

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 30/03/2022 06:54

Mars was at a product test I schlepped up to London for - awesome.

Did anyone else do those? Burgers, Sun cream, irons, Xbox, cheese, cinema screenings...my DC speak fondly of the freebies. Including the time MN took over Harry Potter studios and we had free butter beer.

Xenia is still around, on the Higher Ed Board.

Cheermonger · 30/03/2022 07:07

@ginslinger

I still put my divider on length ways at the supermarket - there was a thread about it and I can't remember what it was about but it became a secret signal
Me too
Gilead · 30/03/2022 07:13

2006 with name changes and a couple of deregs. I remember you.hi!

TosstTastic · 30/03/2022 07:15

AIBU to ask if AIBU started off from the premise of being told 'yes' and then being given a million solutions, most of which were extremely unreasonable and very unsafe.
I used to laugh out loud such a lot.
I also lurked a lot at ,my start, November 2003, because it was so funny, so quick,so intimidating. You could swear whilst talking about childcare but no text speak or Hun type endearments. And the site would update to tell you how many new posts since you last dialed up.

I drift through at different stages in my life but never moved in fully.

@policywonk and @onebatmother - not sure if they're around any more

TosstTastic · 30/03/2022 08:02

Perhaps I should have gone with the Mouldies, I like to think there's a little corner of the internet with a seriously basic interface where they're sock puppeting away, a cast of thousands,
all four of them.

Sure already mentioned, but is Hullygully still around?? And her friend, whose name I've forgotten.

Clawdy · 30/03/2022 08:09

Pagwatch was her friend! Paggy and Hully.

Fiderer · 30/03/2022 08:26

It was UCM in the failed namechange, I think.

iknowimcoming · 30/03/2022 08:36

Well this is rather lovely! I was never in the quiche, not witty or cool enough, but remember you all fondly. I can still remember hovering over a link thinking 'is this going to be the bat tho!?' and feeling stupid when I'd been had AGAIN!

I often think of yorkiegirl (I think it was) who's husband suddenly died whilst they were on holiday, and how she rebuilt her life and then also tragically lost her second husband Sad

I've shed actual tears over the years on here, the cubed poo being one of my favourites (and the bat) Grin

ssd · 30/03/2022 08:45

@Fiderer

Yes it was UCM!

I never got the bat joke. Or penis beaker. And i never got what was the big deal about mouldies, or who was in it. There's a few posters mentioned here i don't miss, too up their own arses with their self importance. I wonder if there's still the waving and blowing kisses shite going on you used to see back then? It was a bit too try hard for me. And the who is your favourite poster threads, honestly, sad really. But i do miss the down to earth humour some posters always had. I wonder how new joiners would describe mn now?
