Question for people with a newish Kenwood mixer or similar

Does the whisk attachment reach to the edge of the bowl? I have a 15 year old Kenwood that I use all the time. I love every aspect of it except the fact that the whisk attachment doesn't seem to quite reach the edge of the bowl.

I am thinking of getting a new one in the hope that they have got better, but wondering whether there is any point. Does anyone have a newish on which works any better?

Have an elderly KitchenAid and would like to know the answer, unless the answer is to buy a nice spatula.

I've got a decent spatula, but was hoping for a more technological solution!

Not sure whether there is no solution or this is just too dull a question...

I have a k-mix and no, the beater doesn't scrape the sides of the bowl. It does move around, not just spin in the middle, but you still need to scrape down the sides.

Have you tried adjusting it? I bought a Kenwood chef titanium about 12 years ago and it came with a small spanner that you use to adjust all the attachments. There is a hexagonal nut at the bottom of the pin on top of the whisk.

lummox · 26/03/2022 20:09

Ooh yes - there is a hexagonal nut. I don't have anything that came with it, but is the idea that loosening that nut might make it reach to the sides?

I've never noticed that before - thank you!

This is the spanner and a description of how to adjust the attachments.

lummox · 26/03/2022 20:20

Ah - that makes sense. So if it is loosened it will be lower and get closer to the edges? I am genuinely quite excited to try this tomorrow.

I also feel a bit daft for having not thought to ask this for fifteen years!

I found this out recently, used the spanner and loosened the nut, lowered the mechanism, just a few mm, did the trick. Don't feel bad, this is why MN is so so good!

I have a kmix and have a creamer attachment that has a silicone trim on it that scrapes the edge of the bowl. I use that for any recipes that require creaming the butter and sugar first. The whisk attachment I only use for whisking egg whites. Surely if it reached the edge of the bowl it would scratch it?

lummox · 26/03/2022 20:29

Absolutely! If this works the thread is going to save me about £400, as there is nothing wrong with the mixer other than this one annoying thing.

It’s the same answer, you can adjust the setting so that the beaters reach the sides.

I kind of lean on mine to make it get closer to the side of the bowl: I thought everyone did this, I certainly remember my mum gently pressing on the top of her (original) Kenwood.

But yes, it comes with a spanner to adjust the height of the beater.
