Should I stay or should I go

I've got the opportunity to go to Canada for initially 6 months, could be more if I like it and can get an extension on my visa. On a working holiday visa. I'm really unhappy with my life, I don't really like my job, I'm single no kids, rent so leaving a house wouldn't be a problem. Me and my friend applied on a wim and now it's actually happening I can't decide whether I want to go....I'd have to put all my belongings into storage and give my dog away. Arghhh I don't know what to do.

Trudeau would put me off too.
I know people leaving Canada, not moving to it.
There is talk in Ontario too of digital ID. No way would I want to live under that.

Having said all that, everyone is different.

Lily2075 · 26/03/2022 16:56

Have reported your comment @LaraDeSalle you must be a very unhappy person to write such a nasty thing to a stranger. You know nothing about me or my dog or why I currently have a dog. Take care and please don't ever reply to any of my threads ever again.

I'd go. You are really unhappy and have the chance of a fresh start. Re-home your dog, preferably with someone you know. But don't spend another decade here, miserable, because you have a pet and are trapped. And I say that as a dog owner.

MsFrog · 26/03/2022 16:58

@LaraDeSalle very unnecessary. It's a dog, not a child, and you know nothing about her situation

RampantIvy · 26/03/2022 16:59

What an unpleasant post @LaraDeSalle Hmm
Giving a dog away is not a horrible thing to do if the dog is homed with dog lovers.

Crunchymum · 26/03/2022 17:03

To be fair to @LaraDeSalle the OP does sound rather dismissive about having to rehome her dog. 🤔

girlmom21 · 26/03/2022 17:06

She hasn't really been horrible. She's been fair.

She didn't even say 'find foster care for the dog' so she could have it back in when she comes home. She just wants to forget about it.

Lily2075 · 26/03/2022 17:06

I'm not dismissive at all, it is basically the only reason why I wouldn't go.

OP posts:
LaraDeSalle · 26/03/2022 17:06

A dog is for life.

Lily2075 · 26/03/2022 17:07

God people are making some massive assumptions. My dog is the only thing stopping me from going. Of course I'd want to find a lovely Foster home for her. I'm not a monster.

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 26/03/2022 17:08

Well what research have you done with regards to your dog?

LaraDeSalle · 26/03/2022 17:08

Thank you. I’m gob smacked at the nonchalant way of getting rid of the dog was casually mentioned at the end of the post like it was some kind of inconvenience.

Yes it is.
LaraDeSalle · 26/03/2022 17:10

You said ‘give away’ no mention of fostering the dog.

Lily2075 · 26/03/2022 17:10

@LaraDeSalle I have politely asked you to stop commenting.

I don't need to go into depths of my plan about my dog, I just wanted to include it in my dilemma as it is my reason not to go.

OP posts:
EinsteinaGogo · 26/03/2022 17:13

Hey OP,

It sounds like your dog is the obstacle which is stopping it being an easy decision, which is quite understandable.

(Dog aside) It does sound like a change may be a good thing.

Are you financially in an ok place to go?
If so, and you can get your dog in a safe home (maybe even temporary?), what's the downside?

girlmom21 · 26/03/2022 17:14

@Lily2075

I don't need to go into depths of my plan about my dog, I just wanted to include it in my dilemma as it is my reason not to go.
So tell us what the plan is for the dog and we can tell you if it's fair and rational?

What happens if you end up staying for a year or two?

Will you pay vets bills, food, insurance?

How will you know the dog is safe and happy?

Sorry to hear you only want to read posts that agree with you. You’ll do well in Canada as Trudeau wants a country full of people who are blinkered as to what is going on around them.

EinsteinaGogo · 26/03/2022 17:16

@LaraDeSalle

Pack it jn.
It's very clear from the post that the OP is in a low place.

Not everyone writes chapter and verse about the steps they've taken, the considerations they've made.
She's said 'should I go', obviously her dog is a concern.

Stop putting the boot in when someone is clearly down 😡

dinoeggs · 26/03/2022 17:17

Go! You cannot sacrifice your mental well-being for a dog.

girlmom21 · 26/03/2022 17:19

@dinoeggs

Go! You cannot sacrifice your mental well-being for a dog.
If the dog is holding her back leaving the dog behind might impact her MH more than going would benefit it.
Dillydollydingdong · 26/03/2022 17:24

The OP can't allow a dog to prevent her moving on with her life, provided she makes sure it has a good home. It might even be happier in its new home. It might get better food, more walks, more love. My ex neighbours had a dog that used to howl miserably every day because they both went out to work and left him alone all day. Surely no one could say he wouldn't have been better off in a new home?

Nandocushion · 26/03/2022 17:26

Sorry to hear you only want to read posts that agree with you. You’ll do well in Canada as Trudeau wants a country full of people who are blinkered as to what is going on around them.

Sadly OP there is a tiny minority of right-wing trolls in Canada. They've been driving around honking and blockading things for a while, but as all the covid restrictions are being lifted they haven't got much to do any more and now they just sit online all day shitposting about Trudeau. Most Canadians are totally normal.

If you can find a nice home for your dog, do you want to go? Do you have a job when you get there? Do you know what part of Canada you want to live in?
