Plumber 1
Conversion job will take 1.5 day but by end of day 1 will leave water on for us so will have hot water.
Will supply and fit baxi which he recommds
Cost includes boiler, fitting and bits
£2.5k

Plumber 2
Job will take 3 days which means no water throughout these days
I need to buy boiler and the control myself. He will supply the flue / pipes etc.
Has recommended baxi and main
Cost £1200

Hands down Number one.

  1. Cheap is cheap for a reason.
gtegh · 26/03/2022 07:19

Are you saying 1 because it's hassle free and quicker?

I have no idea if he's too quick or if number 2 is being too slow saying 3 days. Its a heat only we're changing to a combi. Boiler will be fitted in the same place.

Depends on the make / model of boiler but a the baxi number 1 is fitting is around 1100. With number 2 I'd have to buy myself

Plumber 1. You will end up buying more than you think with extra bits needed if you go with 2.

Plumber 1 will take full respondibility, boiler will come from proper supplier with full warranty - obviously you ensure he is industry registered & has full public liability insurance. I.e. Gas Safe or OFTEC.
Some makes offer longer guarantee & warranty if the boiler engineer is registered as a recommended fitter.

heidihigh · 26/03/2022 07:26

Hands down number 1

I'm saying 1 because I think with 2 you'll end up paying more to get the boiler and control
LabelMaker · 26/03/2022 07:35

And if the boiler doesn't work with the set up for whatever reason 1 will sort it but 2 would just go, ah well you bought that boiler

ApolloandDaphne · 26/03/2022 07:53

I would go 1. He is also quicker and leaving you with water. He sounds much more professional.

Starisnotanumber · 26/03/2022 07:59

To throw a spanner into works try Boxt.
They will do an online quote for boiler and arrange fitting with their own fitters.
Very good reviews on trustpilot from thousands of people

Tigerblue · 26/03/2022 08:05

Plumber No. 1. If there's any initial teething problems, he's more like to come back if he's supplied everything. Plumber No. 2 might blame it on boiler, which you've supplied. What can't Plumber No. 2 get the boiler for you?

Either way, are both plumbers on the gas safe register and you have recommendations for them? Another thing is make sure you get the quote in writing.

Mindymomo · 26/03/2022 08:28

My DH is a plumber, bathrooms not boilers. He gets his clients to buy everything but tells them what and where to get it. The reason behind this is he stays under the VAT threshold, so doesn’t have to charge VAT onto client. Option 2 will probably work out cheaper, but option 1 will be quicker.

ratspeaker · 26/03/2022 10:15

Are they both gas Safe registered?

Have you costed new boiler controls and fixtures?

What warranty on works done are they giving?

IsitFridayyet21 · 26/03/2022 10:19

I would want everything coming from one plumber so they have full control. For guarantee afterwards. Plumber 1.

gtegh · 26/03/2022 14:26

Yes I guess plumber 2 will be a bit cheaper overall.

I think I'll go with 1
