Musical bars tattoo

I am considering a small musical tattoo in memory of someone. I don't think I want lyrics written on me, so I was thinking the first musical bars of the song.

But I haven't the first clue how to go about that. How do I know for sure I've got the rights bars? I can't read music. I suppose I need to see how that would look as I don't want anything huge.

Can anyone help?

Look up "sheet music name of song" online and you should be able to find it. Might be best to buy it, but you may be able to screenshot the bars you want.

Lostlostlost3 · 25/03/2022 22:22

I can help if you let me know the name of the song.

Lostlostlost3 · 25/03/2022 22:23

Obviously, you'd need to tell me if it was the vocals or an instrumental line you wanted.

Thank you @Lostlostlost3!

It's the just the first musical bars of The Scientist by Coldplay?

Thank you too @WeAreTheHeroes

I was going to googly eyed trying to see if they were all the same, as worried I'd get it wrong

I think you might mean the lovely intro bit that is played on piano? It is four bars long. Here it is:

I do, yes.

Okay; longer than I hoped... and now I can't picture it as it's not "curly" Grin

But thank you so, so much. I will see what I can do!

Love idea, but the first few bars might look a bit dull 😉
Plenty of people who can read music on here, is there a particular lyric from it or notes you like the sound of best?

Click on the image for the full four bars. If that's too long could you select a few words from the vocal line that are particularly meaningful and use that? That would be far less notes, the intro there is chords plus a bass line. It's such a beautiful song.

Lostlostlost3 · 25/03/2022 22:35

That is the riff I think you like the sound of.

Can I come back to you with a vocal part? There could be a few.

Right now, I can't imagine ever being able to listen to the actual song again, so this is the compromise.

@Lostlostlost3 did you just write that down??

I'm impressed. Thank you for all your help.

I did. You're very welcome. When you listen to the song that is the bit of the intro that makes it recognisable. I simplified it from the score.

musicalmoney · 25/03/2022 22:48

Thank you so much @Lostlostlost3

I will get someone I know to play this for me, so that I can be sure I have the right part.

It's my understanding I doubt, not you!

If that is the part you like I can write it ask them to write the beginning properly, or come back to the thread and I can do it for you. I haven't put the treble clef on the ledger lines- I imagine you would want it absolutely perfect.

People are so kind on MN. Lovely of you to take the time, Lost. I'm sorry for your loss, OP.

Yes, I'd like it as perfect as possible.

I have some musicians in my work, but I don't know all of them well, so I'll need to see which ones can do this.

But I can't thank you enough. Thanks

I have a bass line to my favourite song curling around my foot. I don’t read music.

I found what I thought was it online and asked my best friend who does read music to hum it. She did and it sounded right. In the end I managed to fine the actual bass guitar part from the song I wanted and BF helped me to isolate the bit I wanted.

Glad you have lots of help here, I’m Useless, though spending years looking at my own foot now I can see the pattern when I hear the song and can now hum it 😂

janice75 · 25/03/2022 23:36

Oh that’s a lovely idea! I once got musical notes tattooed on my foot. Unfortunately, i did it as a surprise, husband is a singer, and when he saw the tattoo he told me that the notes i had gotten don’t actually exist. I was mortified to say the least! So be careful as now every step i take i’m reminded of my failures.

I'll think I'll be getting it on my rib cage, like under my arm? I want it to to be very private.
I think very few people would understand me doing it, so I can't ask anyone who would dig me for the reasoning.

So, I guess if it's wrong, no-one, including me, would know!

But I'm sure it's not Star
