Help! I keep calling dd’s boyfriend by her ex’s name. I open my gob to say James and Josh comes out!

Dd hasn’t been with Josh for years and years. I didn’t even like the guy!

I feel awful. I really like James, and I try my best. But my brain will not work. It’s awfully embarrassing. I don’t want James to think I wish dd was with Josh.

It's terrible isn't it. I kept doing this with my sisters new partner who is lovely. In the end I avoided saying any name.

Just call him love or dear. Easy

Poor guy, it must be a bit disheartening and uncomfortable.

Obviously it isn't deliberate OP, perhaps make sure to pause before speaking to him to make sure you don't fall into the habit, rather than just saying it quickly and automatically as we so often do when we see a person.

My MIL did this for months. It passed. Keep saying his actual name. It'll sink in.
