Suggestions for rainy holiday in Kielder

Hi all, going to Kielder first week of April and it looks like it's going to be raining most of the time. It's our first holiday in 2.5 years so I want to make the most of it anyway.

Does anyone have any suggestions of fun things to do in and around Kielder (an hour's drive or so from kielder is ok). They needn't all be indoors though I'm especially looking for fun activities when it's really pouring down.

Unfortunately, the observatory is completely booked out and has been for weeks. Very annoying as this was the reason we picked Kielder in the first place.

(We'll definitely go to the castle and waterside)

We've got two kids, aged 5 years and 8 months.

Thanks tons.

We had a holiday there a few years ago. To warn you: everything is an hour from Kielder as it’s so far away from everything. I’m a suburban soul and didn’t realise you could be so remote and still be in England.

We went for a day out in Jedburgh, wondering around the abbey, and visited Housesteads. Housesteads on a grim day would be very grim though.
