Pregnant looking belly not pregnant

No such thing as face to face doctor appointments. Spoke to gp about tummy bloated and pelvic pain at wrong time- sent for tests. Judging by the dismissive attitude of the person doing my scan - she kept asking why I was here with a huff.
So how do I get rid of tummy? I don’t drink fizzy, I eat slowly (I especially do at the moment as I’m struggling to eat a main meal) and I’m not constipated (I’ve actually go more regular recently). If anyone has managed this let me into to the secret please. I’ve always carried weight on bottom and thighs. Tummy just between my hip bones not it’s stuck out - you can see it even in a baggy jumper dress.

Go back to your GP as many of these things are linked to ovarian cancer. Check they have done blood tests like CA125 and HE4 and if a CT scan can be arranged as ultrasound isn’t the reliable diagnostic tool. It’s vanishingly unlikely so don’t panic but use it as a way to press for further investigations.

I was going to suggest large fibroids but then saw you’d had a scan.

MrsPear · 25/03/2022 09:04

Ok when I next speak to doctor I will ask what is next. As I said I don’t usually carry weight there - I never have. It’s always hips and thighs. Plus I’ve not put on weight. I’m still 10st and 5’6. The doctor did ask if I had weighted myself recently and if I was sure that I hadn’t gained. I sound vain but I don’t care I feel awful. It feels tight and uncomfortable. I’ve had gas problems in pregnancy but it’s not like that - it’s too low if that makes any sense.

What kind of scan did you have and what did they look for?

2020nymph · 25/03/2022 09:21

Have you been checked for:

Ovarian cysts
Endo
Diastasis recti
Food intolerances

All have caused similar symptoms for me. Good luck getting it sorted.

On Steph's packed lunch the other day it was saying that a bloated stomach could be a sign of cancer (sorry I can't remember what kind) and to preserve with GP about it as it's easily dismissed as minor digestive problems.

It's probably not the worst case scenario but definitely worth pushing with your GP. And if you're not getting anywhere with that one ask for a different one.

MrsPear · 25/03/2022 09:31

So far I’ve had trans vaginal scan - which was agony. And bloods.
My symptoms - bowel changes, period changes happened first but I didn’t really pay much attention then I started having eating issues then I was in pain Sunday /Monday (subsided to an ache which I still have) which is when I called the doctor and also pointed out the bloating. She questioned and that’s when I mentioned the other things too.

How old are you? Middle age spread?

GodspeedJune · 25/03/2022 09:36

Sorry this is a personal comment but if you found the TV scan agony that could be a sign of endometriosis which can also cause some of your symptoms. I have endo and really struggle with TV scans, most ladies don’t find them difficult.

I’m 40 near 41 so I’m not middle age yet.

So keep pushing for tests and hope they can work it out. @jb7445 that’s exactly how I feel about my stomach

Thanks everyone and

You could still be peri menopausal which can cause these symptoms. Assuming it's just for women over 50 is a mistake.

I had this and it was fibroids but as you've had a scan they would've ruled this, and ovarian cysts out?

notacooldad · 25/03/2022 11:24

Assuming it is not any of the medical conditions mentioned listed could it just be fat?
I was similar to you a few weeks ago. My belly was protruding and solid. In the last month I have not had any refined carbs but have had plenty of fresh fruit, veg, nuts, oils. No alcohol, no sugar ( apart from natural sugar in fruit and veg) no alcohol.
Although I still have a lot of weight to lose my stomach has lost the hard round appearance. ( it’s just wobbly now but that’s better than it was)

There are various food intolerances that cause bloating and digestive discomfort. Not all can be easily tested for (most are made by systematic exclusion) but one that can is lactose intolerance. This can come on in later life and causes symptoms such as bloating, constipation and the runs, even vomiting in severe cases. It can be checked via a fairly simple breath test.
