Do you drink enough water?

Onlyhonest · 24/03/2022 14:24

I don’t think I do. I drink half a litre of water a day (max) plus one or two cups of tea. I struggle to drink more. I do get a lot of headaches so trying to make an effort to drink more each day.

How much water do you drink each day and is that easy for you or do you consciously make yourself drink it? Do you notice the health benefits if you drink a lot?

Nope. I probably drink about a pint of water a day plus 2-3 large coffees.

sophienelisse · 24/03/2022 17:32

I have about 2l of really weak cordial without fail and usually about 6 cups of tea.

Birdfooddirect · 24/03/2022 17:36

emmathedilemma

easily, i drink 3 litres most days. Currently on my 3rd 750ml bottle of water.

Why though? Surely it's completely excessive and you spend your whole life on the loo

LaraDeSalle · 24/03/2022 17:45

I have been examined and had my kidneys and bladder looked at and there is nothing wrong with me. Some people simply function perfectly well on a small amount of fluid intake.

devildeepbluesea · 24/03/2022 17:49

If instant coffee and squash counts then probably about 2.5-3L per day. If they don’t….hardly any.

I’m perfectly healthy.

DaisyDeli · 24/03/2022 17:54

Yes, about 2L / 3L a day of fizzy water.

roarfeckingroarr · 24/03/2022 17:56

@ComtesseDeSpair

I have always generally assumed that my body has an amazing biological mechanism called thirst which prompts it to hydrate effectively. It’s never occurred to me to drink water just for the sake of “getting enough”. I seem perfectly healthy, anyway, or at least no discernibly less healthy than anyone I know.
Thirst is a later sign of dehydration.

Look at the colour of your pee.

I drink about a 3l and feel headachey if less.

ClaudiusTheGod · 24/03/2022 17:57

There is no evidence for this.

britneyisfree · 24/03/2022 17:59

@gamerchick

Well, what colour is your pee? That's usually enough to tell you if you're drinking enough.
It's not for me. Mine is always the colour of hydrated but yet I am always thirsty with headaches and very very rarely ever drink enough water.

I am trying to do better. Also if you're overweight 2l isn't enough. There's this thing you can do where it's half your weight in lbs converted to ounces is the amount of water you need.

shabbalabba · 24/03/2022 18:01

Nope...I would be doing well to drink a half a litre a week!! I drink tea mostly 😬

PurpleDaisies · 24/03/2022 18:01

Based on what evidence?

People do talk with a lot of authority about getting enough water but most of it is just non scientific guff.

britneyisfree · 24/03/2022 18:01

@YellowAndGreenToBeSeen

Yep. Minimum 2lts water every day and then one tea and two coffees.

Never drink fruit juice, squash or fizzy drinks like coke etc.

Also drink wine and gin.

Goals

Tea still counts towards your daily fluid intake.
parabalabalabala · 24/03/2022 18:02

@Amdone123

I drink 2l a day, without fail. And probably a litre through the night. I always drink a glass / small bottle on waking. As children, we were brought up on water / corporation pop ! Even when the mineral man came round and delivered, we still preferred tap water. My dm only ever bought it on special occasions anyway. I like a diet coke every now and then, but mainly water. My skin has always been clear and I've never experienced spots. I think drinking water gives me energy.
Gosh I haven't heard the word "minerals" used for soft drinks since I was a child! Are you from the north west?
shabbalabba · 24/03/2022 18:03

@PurpleDaisies great we'll in that case 4/6 cups a day 🤣

You're probably right but the few times I've managed it I have felt absolutely fantastic. So much energy and just felt all round awesome.

Placebo i guess

BooksAndHooks · 24/03/2022 18:03

I don’t drink any water. Mainly drink coffee or herbal tea and soft drinks. Never plain water.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 24/03/2022 18:06

Isn't tea a diuretic? Therefore doesn't actually hydrate you?

Fizbosshoes · 24/03/2022 18:08

I drink water easily if I am running a marathon or on holiday abroad where its hot. Neither of those things have happened since 2018!
I am rubbish at drinking water, but I'm still here. I mainly drink soft drinks, I rarely have tea and never have coffee. I can't imagine drinking 3 litres of water though, I feel pleased if I drink 500ml in a day!Blush

PurpleDaisies · 24/03/2022 18:09

@CeeCeeDeeBee

This is a myth.

Tea is a bit less hydrating than pure water but what you lose through the diuretic action is much less than the amount that your body holds on to. Same for coffee.

freedaym · 24/03/2022 18:15

Try & do minimum 1.5 litres of water with 1-2 cups of tea.

freedaym · 24/03/2022 18:15

I don't drink anything else though

LaraDeSalle · 24/03/2022 19:23

I forgot to add that when I said I am perfectly healthy I also do not sweat or hardly sweat at all and if so only on my forehead or back of my neck in very hot climates only.

I’ve been this way al my life and again have been checked for anything wrong with me and whether it is linked to my only peeing once a day/not drinking a lot.

I’ve been given a clean bill of health and my kidneys and bladder etc are in great health.

gamerchick · 24/03/2022 19:26

Ok, but it's pretty universal when you're not drinking enough right?

*Waits for someone to pop up to announce their pee is always the colour of sludge no matter how much they drink Grin

Amdone123 · 25/03/2022 12:26

@parabalabalabala, I am indeed !
