Book/audio book recommendations you were skeptical about but turned out to be brilliant

Just finished my audiobook that my Dsis recommended. Force of nature by Jane Harper.

Not my usual at all. I don’t like “who dunnits” and tend to prefer more…. Not sure of the word, “highbrow” Grin books.

But I bloody loved it. I was riveted.

Anyone else been pleasantly surprised by a risk they’ve take re a book or audio?

And… now looking for next audio. Any recommendations?! Happy to take a risk…

I was always skeptical of autobiographies
Then I read Stephen frys on a recommendation
Enjoyed
And now it’s mainly what I read!

A friend recommended me the book "The Gallows Pole" by Benjamin Myers after one of her colleagues was raving about it.

I tend to prefer books by women. And this one is about outlaws at the dawn of the industrial revolution which isn't my usual topic of interest.

But it was absolutely magnificent. I couldn't put it down. Strongly, strongly recommend.
