Okish 7 seater and banger or two better cars?

We're a family of 6 (and a dog!) We currently have a Qashqai and a mini but both cars are potentially on their way out. I don't like mini vans but do like SUV types. In about 2 years time we could afford £20k in cars but we haven't reached that moment just yet (although we could at a push). Anywho, I've been toying with the idea of just having two cars and just take both whenever we need the 7 seats which is actually not that often (once a month at most). That way we'd be able to get more decent/reliable cars. My DH is not completely sold on this.

Choose wisely and the higher cost of having two cars (so two lots of insurance, MOT and road tax) can be mostly offset by not doing all your miles in a big thirsty car, so use less fuel overall.

But it depends on your mileage, whether you have somewhere to park two cars, how often you'd need both cars etc etc.

We already have two cars. It's just swapping the 7 seater for a good size 5 seater (knowing that we'll need to take both every now and then)
