Is everywhere dog-friendly these days?

I'm getting increasingly fed up with dogs being everywhere - in stores, in cafes, getting under my feet and nearly tripping me up. Was browsing in Waterstones Sat morning and another customer had a dog on a long lead and it jumped up at me. Owner was oblivious. I suspect I'm in a minority but I am finding this constant pandering to dog owners wearing.

How are they everywhere most dogs ate not allowed in shops other than guidedogs

they are not allowed in supermarkets but they are pretty much allowed everywhere else. Not just allowed but actively encouraged. Even clothes shops, which just seems weird.

I can’t remember when I was last harassed by a dog in a public place not a shop but a German shepherd went for me this morning when I walked past him and his owner. The owner was keeping a close hold on him/her, but he did knock my arm. I think I narrowly missed being bitten. It wouldn't have been the owner's fault though as they did try to hold onto him. It's when they just let them off the lead and hassle you that I get annoyed.

But I don't like seeing poor dogs with breathing problems grunting away as strangely-bred fashion accessories, for their odd, aesthetically / morally challenged owners

Indeed. And the ones whose brains are too big for their heads so they have terrible headaches. Yet their owners are the dog "lovers". Hmmmm.

Why on earth have you resurrected this zombie?

@Mushypeasandchipstogo

I’m with you OP. I don’t think dogs should be allowed in pubs where food is served or restaurants. I’m fed up of dogs yapping and wandering around when I am trying to eat. Don’t even get me started on a B & B which we stayed at recently - dog left in room barking loudly whilst owners went to the pub.
But the owners of the pub or restaurant do so you either suck it up or go elsewhere

Well you say that but there's often no "elsewhere".

I feel the same way about children, @BookkeeperBobby! Wish I didn’t have to acknowledge brats that try crawl up my leg, play peekaboo, screech for my attention. If I ignore them pestering me, the parents seem to think I’m in the wrong

But kids don't do that. I can't remember the last time I went out for a run and a child decided to chase me and jump up at me (clue: never). Sometimes they get in the way on their scooters but if I avoid school run times, that isn't generally an issue either. They don't hassle people in shops or cafes, the worst is when their parents let them play Peppa Pig without headphones on, but that is on the parents.

I didn't see the date but I don't think March 2022 is really a zombie thread anyway :)

I agree completely! I have a dog, I love dogs but I'm sick of not being able to go anywhere without one bothering us! I was pushing my newborn down the street one day when a lab bounded up and got its head right in the pram. The owner laughed and said "he loves babies" then I was at a local cafe where I was told there wasn't space for the pram so I carried my sleeping baby in in his car seat then once I was at the table I put the seat under the table and within 5 mins a couple at the next table let their dog wander over and climb into the car seat!! I had hold of my son and was trying to shoo the dog away while the owners thought it was adorable! We also took our two boys for a picnic at a local park where dogs are supposed to be on leads. We found a really quiet spot in a big field away from anyone else. My four year old was flying a kite with his Dad in the field while I fed our baby in our pop up tent. The next thing two dogs off lead came running up (owner was miles away calling for them but they weren't listening) got in the tent, jumped all over us, ate the food and p*ed in the tent. The owner said there was unfortunately nothing he could do and dogs have a right to run off lead and that we shouldn't picnic there!!! We also have a "dog free" area of the beach that is never actually dog free and nobody seems to clean up after their dogs. Even our local shopping centre has dogs in all of the clothes shops, why do you need to take a dog clothes shopping? I love dogs but I find that so many dog owners just let them do as they please and I would love for some places to be dog free so my kids can run around without being bothered or to be able to sit in a cafe without dogs barking constantly. If my kids made that much noise people would complain

1 million percent. I had similar incodents and the owners never even apologise I have ended up with wet muddy / poo clothes from dogs jumping up at me and licking me. No way keep your slobbery dog at home and on a tight leash.

Inthought people were struggling to deal with coat of living. I guess not.
