European city break for lone female

I have some easyJet vouchers to cash in, they fly to loads of destinations from my local airport. I can't be bothered to try and arrange with a friend, it's too much like hard work trying to manage all the logistics.

I'll be booking for June, where could I go as a lone female where it's relaxed and welcoming and I can eat out in the evenings without feeling like some kindof impostor. Also where it's safe for me to wander about.

Paris is a no due to safety issues. Munich and Barcelona been to many times, want to try somewhere new. Not Copenhagen as been before and was a bit £££!
Ideas?

StopFeckingFaffing · 22/03/2022 18:31

Helsinki or Vienna? Iceland? I would have thought most German cities would be ok as well and maybe some of the smaller Dutch ones. I don't know where Easyjet flies to though.

I would think that most student cities would be ok, for example Groningen, Leuven, Leiden, Freiburg, Passau, Heidelberg, but not sure how easy to fly to.

CheeseRadio · 22/03/2022 18:34

I'd highly recommend Bordeaux, if you fancy France

JoanThursday · 22/03/2022 18:35

Prague? I went there on my own about 20 years ago. Felt very safe.

CloudPop · 22/03/2022 18:35

Berlin

notacooldad · 22/03/2022 18:36

My favourite that I keep returning to is Oslo. I love it! Just don't go when the marathon is on!
Gothenburg is good. You could get the train or the Flixbus from Oslo for a two destination stay. Other towns round Norway are good, especially if you like hiking.
Many cities in Germany are fantastic.
Brussels and surrounding towns are good as well.
If you need any advice or info about things I've liked in these places let me know!

I find Northern European cities ‘feel’ safer to me. Whether they are or not I can’t say for sure. I would have said Paris but Amsterdam once you are careful where you stay is perfect.

Stockholm is beautiful in summer but expensive. Seville or Lisbon are also lovely

Some french cities, such as biarritz, are beautiful.

Potcallingkettle · 22/03/2022 18:36

Vienna or Salzburg. Both stunning and so much to do.

Eindhoven is nice for a weekend break.

Fatgalslim · 22/03/2022 18:38

Definitely Bruges, small, compact, lovely cafes and restaurants. Felt very safe when I went alone a few years back

This is one I've been thinking about, I've lived in France and speak French so feel comfortable there. It's just the eating out in the evening thing, whether I'd get an odd reception

I know you said no to Copenhagen but have you thought about Fyn. It's a train ride from the city. Last time I was there I rented a cabin on a camp site next to beach. Absolutely wonderful!

I'd LOVE to go to Norway. My mum lived there in her teens.

Valencia. Great shopping and cocktails plus a lovely beach you can get a metro to and for a small fee hire a sunbed and umbrella. Plus the aquarium is stunning

Always fancied both, will see if the flights go there

Vienna was lovely and felt very safe on my own. I also did Venice solo and it was busy enough at night that I felt fine; just choose restaurants carefully as Italian men can take solo as an invite (although most good waiters will shoo a persistent offender away!).

BitOutOfPractice · 22/03/2022 18:40

Lisbon is great.

But Vienna would get my top vote

Live your life chick, dont bother about people. I've never had any issues eating out.

CremeEggThief · 22/03/2022 18:42

Berlin?
I wouldn't risk going any further east than that for now, although Budapest and Prague are also great cities.

Make it happen! Even if it's for a weekend!
Its fabulous. So much to do in the capital but the towns are fabulous as well.

I know, I really need to conquer the self consciousness thing. I'm fine in the day. If I rented an air b and b I could eat in that but wouldn't want to stay in every evening esp in the height of summer!

That is my worry, I've been approached in France a fair few times and had to be quite firm. I just can't be bothered with all of that!
