Help me feel better about smoking!!

I quit smoking before falling pregnant with my eldest back in 2012. I haven’t smoked in almost 10 years until a moment of weakness when I was drunk at the weekend. I only had one draw but I feel terrible about it. My brain logically knows it was just a blip but I’m sort of hating myself for it. Sad

One drag at the weekend? Let it go!!

Lubeyboobyalt · 22/03/2022 12:50

every time you think about it again and start beating yourself up, don't judge or berate yourself, visualise the thought as a piece of paper that you screw up and chuck in the bin, then try and think of something else. Elephants, cats, toasters, holidays, sunny weather, your next day trip, your fave smell... anything to set you down a different path of thought

Smoking isn’t crack, don’t worry, forget it and move on.

Teddybearen · 22/03/2022 18:39

You need to chill out op

Georgeskitchen · 22/03/2022 19:50

Well done for kicking the habit . Don't beat yourself up over one drag!!

Wrinklepicker · 22/03/2022 19:51

Oh wow, I opened this expecting a 40 a day habit. Be kind to yourself OP!

ImInStealthMode · 22/03/2022 19:55

I opened this expecting a 20 a day habit that was bankrupting you, or you've found out your pregnant and struggling to go cold turkey.

One drag? Don't give it another second of your head space, honestly.

gamerchick · 22/03/2022 19:55

Eh? Have you picked it back up or did you put it down again?

Let it go OP. You haven't started smoking again

Holly60 · 22/03/2022 19:56

When you think about that one blip, change your focus to think about the times you haven’t smoked. You didn’t smoke all today, for example. Think to yourself ‘wow I did so well not to smoke today. My body is so much healthier because of that choice I made’.

I gave up 12 years ago but went on my first girls weekend away in 12 years, last month. I got incredibly drunk, for the first time in 12 years I smoked. Not just one drag but a lot of cigarettes, I was actually craving them the next day which was awful. But I also stank and had a scratchy throat and it made me remember why I quit.

I don’t feel bad at all! I was just being a numpty. Forget about it 😃

Libertaire · 22/03/2022 19:58

Congratulations on quitting, OP. 👏

I’m 10 years off the cancer sticks this year, too, and I wouldn’t sweat a drunken fag on a night out. One drag isn’t going to make any difference to anything. You’re still a non-smoker.

It's not the smoking you need to worry about, it's your mental health that has you worrying to this degree.
