Why are there two mayors in Paw Patrol?

There's the woman who owns Chickoletta, and the bloke who always gets cats to steal stuff. How can they both be the mayor?

the bloke with the cat is from a different rival town, if i remember correctly

CountessOfSponheim · 22/03/2022 08:21

Mayor Goodway is the mayor of Adventure Bay.

Mayor Humdinger is the mayor of Foggy Bottom.

GoIntoTheLight · 22/03/2022 08:26

Looks like you’re not paying close enough attention to the political structure of the Paw Patrol world @MRex!

VoyageInTheDark · 22/03/2022 10:06

I had to ask my DH this the other day because I was also confused and DH knew he was the mayor of Foggy Bottom because he clearly pays too much attention

MRex · 22/03/2022 10:28

Ah, this makes sense, thank you all. I thought Foggy Bottom was in Adventure Bay. Clearly I need a map. Or eyes in the sky.

What I don't understand is why the Paw Patrol - whose jurisdiction is named in the theme song as 'Adventure Bay' - are always going to help Mayor Humdinger when he presumably doesn't pay the rates that subsidise them and is also consistently a sneaky, whiny, duplicitous cunt.

I have long thought that if they just failed to rescue him they would dramatically cut their work load, and presumably the tax burden on the poor people funding them.
MRex · 22/03/2022 10:31

This is very true.

I also wonder why Norman Price doesn't have an ASBO. Fireman Sam should be getting the police to deal with him, the child's a dangerous menace.

I thought Norman was supposed to be Sam’s love child?
MajesticallyAwkward · 22/03/2022 10:35

@SpaghettiNotCourgetti do you think the paw patrol is subsidised? I always assumed Ryder was a Bruce Wayne type rich orphan with Jimmy Neutron/Dexter intelligence.
Not sure the deal with the super smart talking forever puppies. Did he genetically engineer them or just luck out and find them then start inventing little puppy cars and gadgets.

I guess a town willing to elect mayor goodway (assuming it's a democratic set up here) also wouldn't be too concerned about funding a small child and mutant dogs though. It would appear they don't have any other emergency service.

Hopeful16 · 22/03/2022 10:39

@Duracellbunnywannabe a conversation which has taken up far too many hours in my household for DH and me! 😳

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 22/03/2022 10:54

@MajesticallyAwkward I'm assuming that they're funded because they're the only emergency services option - I may well be wrong, though, and Ryder might indeed be a sort of baby vigilante-style enforcer.

Goldbar · 22/03/2022 10:55

I know Mayor Goodway is meant to be a goodie but there's massive exploitation of child/animal labour going on in Adventure Bay. Ryder has no shift pattern, is on call 24/7 and is frequently called out in the middle of the night. I assume the only reason they get away with it is because he's an orphan.

I also watch too much Paw Patrol.

Blurp · 22/03/2022 10:59

There's a theory online that Mayor Goodway is Ryder's mum, and she makes up for not being able to spend time with him by giving him loads of money for dogs and gadgets and stuff.

Because Sam is definitely Norman's biological dad, there's no other explanation 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also lack the insight into the geography of paw patrol - I'm usually nursing my first coffee of the day at the awful hour my kids have it on.

It must be quite the saving if the town can also afford a massive gold statue of the mayors chicken and all the other crap they seem to have funds for. I don't know how costs compare for mutant dogs and their many gadgets vs police/fire/repairs/rescue services.

@Blurp I've not come across that theory, but it's credible. To my knowledge Ryder's family isn't mentioned (I haven't seen the last few seasons though, dd moved on not long after tracker turned up and ds has only just discovered it).

Nah, he'd always be acting jealous of the chicken if that was the case.

In the Movie (yes we went to the Cinema to see it) there's a great little joke bit about how Paw Patrol can afford the New tower and all the tech due to merchandise sales being so high! It really made me chuckle and went right over DS(5) head.
