Supermarket embarrassing moment

I'm hoping everyone can share some embarrassing moments to make me feel less stupid 😂

Popped into local supermarket to grab a few items (small, all in hand). Headed to self checkout, placed items, scan the bag, and the checkout needs store log in because of items moved in bagging area. Stood there wondering what on Earth was going on, until the employee comes over, tells me I've got it the wrong way round and moves the items to opposite side 😳

Now, if this was something I'd never done before or a shop I had never used before I probably wouldn't feel so daft right now 😂

Good grief, op. I was expecting something actually embarrassing when I clicked on thread.

KStockHERO · 21/03/2022 14:43

Wow, OP, you have a very low threshold for embarrassing. I thought you were going to say you shat yourself or something

Pinkflask · 21/03/2022 14:43

If it's that easy to mistake you're not going to be the first person that day to do it! Some of them are not clear at all which side is which, especially now there are no bags provided, and as it's pot luck depending on which store and which branch you're in, sometimes I've got it wrong before.

I tend to just curse the stupid, badly-designed, job-stealing machines rather than be embarassed.

SweetsAndChocolates · 21/03/2022 14:43

I think it feels worse as it's somewhere I pop into every week, also, the employee sounded like he couldn't believe how stupid I was 😭

As a left-hander, I do self-checkouts wrong really easily. Don't be embarrassed; just curse their inadequate signage.

RogueV · 21/03/2022 14:47

Not embarrassing OP

Butteryflakycrust83 · 21/03/2022 15:07

TBF, some self service tills are not at all user friendly and have no signs where to tell you the bagged items should go.

Would love such a life where this is embarrassing though!

My sanitary towel once fell out in Tesco on a busy Saturday. That was embarrassing.

God if that was all I would be happy, I had to avoid our local Tesco years ago due to two incidents

1st Went to get some milk out of the top of the rack, it had not been locked in, the entire rack came down, I jumped back but it covered about 6 customers from head to toe in milk I got some really dirty looks.

2nd Same store I came out after finishing my shopping no sign of my car (did not have my phone with me ) went back into the store who called the police, then let me ring DH to come and collect me. His response your cars on the drive you went in mine, I had walked past his twice.

Decided to shop at Sainsburys for a bit, 1st shop loaded loads of jars onto the belt, turned round get pick up more shopping, handbag swung round and took out about 10 jars, pasta and curry sauce everywhere all. Morrisons and Asda for the next few months

Hence why I have since done most of my shopping online.

Treeroo · 21/03/2022 15:28

I did that last week but with a full basket! Just laughed when pointed out to me, stupid shops all have slightly different layout.

Theunamedcat · 21/03/2022 15:32

Matalan is the worst for this they have gone self service by putting the till on a swivel so you need to scan and put everything on a shelf where the cashier would have been take your tags off by leaning over the till finally your allowed to take your receipt and pack your bags to go

Nothing is labeled its trial and error "please place the item in the bagging area" WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BAGGING AREA

they recently changed it again im.not shopping there till they LABEL IT

Very funny - though probably not for you.

I've often been seen arguing with the tills
"Unexpected item in bagging area"
"No there isn't"
"Unexpected item in bagging area"
"Oh, yes, my bad, that's my child"

I once tripped up over my own two feet in a supermarket. My basket went one way and I went another, straight into a display of tinned tomatoes. I almost knocked myself out and the bottle of expensive whiskey which I was buying as a gift smashed.
That was embarrassing. I'm sure people thought I was drunk due to the whiskey.

Theunamedcat · 21/03/2022 18:02

My embarrassing incident was on the bus he swung it around the corner my boob hit the button I said sorry that was my boob I don't want to get off laughed it off next corner kept myself upright he braked for an idiot my boob hit the button again I got off several stops early Blush

Treeroo · 22/03/2022 15:11
