Boozy Sunday lunch

Just got home, we went to a lovely wonderful friends house for Sunday lunch today, love them
And they're fab hosts.

But god I'm hammered now. Champagne then wine then port then limoncello or port.

It always takes me 2 days to get over their dinners. Not complaining. But the closer you get to 40 the harder it is to recover from a single lunch!

Does anyone else feel rough for 2 days now they're old?

Your problem is that you are YOUNG and don't appreciate youthful things.

When you are older like me, then you can moan and have massive hangovers.

Drink an electrolyte drink, and take another to bed with you, take a couple of paracetemol and hit the sack very early. Glad you had a great day, remember the good bits. You will be fine!

You write very coherently for being hammered! Sounds like you had a lovely day. Take a paracetamol, lots of water and have an early night.

What age do you think I am?

Yeah, but I am really old ( almost 60 😱). As PPs have said, enjoy your hosts & build great memories . Life is so short & those opportunities should be cherished.
Night night 😁

We had a lovely day! It wasn't an incoherent falling over day at all, this happens about twice a year!

It was lovely. I thought most people had a boozy lunch twice a year or so

Paracetamol before bed apparently makes you feel worse! Definitely get on about the electrolytes if you have them.

I'm rubber after 5 drinks now and suffer really bad 2/3 day hangovers. Tired, achy and just an absolute emotional shambles. Can't do it anymore!

Sounds like a good day though!

emsmar · 20/03/2022 19:04

Also nearing 40 btw! I'm assured by an aunt you get a second wind after your 40's 🤣

bettertocryinamercedes · 20/03/2022 19:13

My hangovers are epic, so much so that I hardly ever get drunk as I can't handle being rough for days!

I'm 41 it's definitely worse after 40!!

TheChosenTwo · 20/03/2022 19:21

I’m 36 and for the past 2/3 years hangovers have totally kicked my arse so I honestly very rarely drink these days!
I mean, I do drink, but not regularly. Would rather have a water and not sacrifice the whole of the next day in bed which is what was happening. Not fair on the dc and wasted half my weekend that I look forward to!
It still occasionally happens and I’m okay with it being occasional but it was like once a month for a while and I realised alcohol no Grinlonger likes me very much.
The good thing with a boozy lunch is that you finish early enough to spend a few hours drinking water and get an early night, you’ll be much better tomorrow because of it!

Cazziebo · 20/03/2022 19:23

Excuse me @WhiteXmas21 - I am 60 and plenty of life in me yet Grin

I do miss my boozy Sunday lunches with friends. (don't sound quite as posh as yours but fun all the same!). Drink lots of water and an early night and plan an easy day tomorrow.

Sounds like it was worth the hangover! Do it again soon!

WhiteXmas21 · 20/03/2022 19:25

@Cazziebo Oops!😂 lots of life in me too, but sadly lost some pals along the way.
Just keep enjoying yourself 😂😘

About twice a year our french ndn’s invite us for lunch.
It begins at 12 and we generally leave about 5.
We get aperos ( nibbles) and then 5 courses plus the correct wine for each course. Plus an aperitif and a cognac or limoncello at the end.
I love it but the amount of food and drink combined with 5 hours of trying to speak french exhausts me.

Thelikelylass · 20/03/2022 20:04

I just drank a bottle of champagne in the garden with a pal simply because the first tulip is poking through. These are our little moments of joy in a chaotic world.

balalake · 20/03/2022 20:55

@sunisblinding you and I lead different lives. Not everyone has boozy lunches twice a year. Drinking before teatime (well cricket tea time) is something rare for me.

tedgran · 20/03/2022 21:01

Always find paracetamol before bed, with plenty of water works for me.
