Any mechanics around to answer a question please?
DH drives a C class Mercedes. He recently added the necessary AdBlue but his dashboard computer hasn't recognised it and he is quickly running out of driveable mileage. He's phoned the dealers and they have a 6 week backlog of work and they've quoted him the job - close to £1k.
We can't afford the time to wait nor the price of the job tbh. A local garage we trust has tried with their dashboard computer thing, but failed to get the problem resolved. We've now been put in touch with another mechanic who says, for about a third of the price, they'll remove the sensor for the AdBlue which will eliminate the issue, but will also eliminate the need to ever use AdBlue again.
Saving nearly £700 seems an appealing prospect but we're a bit concerned with this procedure. Should we be? The car is no under any warranty with the dealer (it's about 4 years old now) and quite likely to stay in our possession until it falls apart (one off retirement gift to himself).
I know this is a long shot, but maybe there are mechanics reading somewhere?! Thanks!
