Help please - I am out of my depth re new job

I have somehow managed to be appointed as a manager of a team of ten people.

On the one hand, I know I’ve worked hard for this over the ten years that I’ve been at my current organisation. However, five of us went for the job and one of them has now stopped speaking to me. I’m struggling a little bit with imposter syndrome.

I really do want to be a good manager and help make a difference and I do have a few ideas but I wanted to ask for help on here about what you’ve found a good manger does. Also, what not to do as a bad manager I suppose.

If you haven't ever read this site I highly recommend it...www.askamanager.org/category/being-the-boss it's like help pages for work problems and I have so much respect for the lady who responds on issues. I read it mainly for entertainment (some peoples workplaces are frankly insane!) but I think through the advice given it's really matured my thinking on many work issues too.

I would sit down and talk 1-to-1 with the employee who’s ignoring you. Understandable that he’s jealous and hurting, but this is work and he needs to behave professionally.
